Welcome my friends, to the 23rd round of the League of Extraordinary Riveters Terrain Competition!
Child's Play
The name of the game is terrain building.
The League's aim is to encourage our fellow gamers/model-makers to kick it up a notch while building terrain for their tabletop, be it for wargames, board games or dioramas. We encourage participants to use this thread to trade ideas, inspiration, encouragement and feedback. Everyone is a winner in a League competition. Because, in the end, your entry is also your prize (and it's just what you wanted, we're good like that) However the Winneriest (Winnermost? most Winsom?) will ascend to Leagedom, pick to topic for the next round and be judge, jury and riveter.
If you haven't taken part before, check out the rules and previous rounds. (linked below.)
Each round has a “theme” or other defining attribute(s) that must in some way be applied to the your terrain project, to compete with other modellers for that most prestigious of prizes, membership into The League of Extraordinary Riveters [LoER].
The competition is open to everyone registered on Dakka Dakka, all are welcome to enter regardless of skill, experience, ability, etc.
The winner of each round hosts the next round, and the cycle continues.
The theme, limitations, rules, judging and prizes are all the responsibility of the host, although he or she can get help from others for some of those things...
For those who are returning once again to compete a most sincere and heartfelt welcome back!

We now return to our scheduled program...
This round's theme is "Child's Play".
"Won't Somebody Please Think of the Children!"
Tabletops abound with Mystic Ruins, Bunkers and Orbital Defense Lasers. But what about little Jimmy and Sally? Where do they play? Sleep? Go to school?
Your task it to model something reminiscent of the children that will grow up to be the Roman Legionnaires or Bug Eyed Monsters of the future.
This could be a lost doll, dropped escaping an Orc hoard, the Circus tents of a carnival set up on the outskirts of the cowboy town, or the Zero-G X-treme! Grav Coaster on Tau-Ceti
VI.
Alternately, instead of modelling scale kid's toys you could re-purpose actual kids toys as your
raw materials (a suitably weathered Barbie would make a perfect monument to ancient alien overlords and their inhuman physiology)
Your work can be in any scale, for any system/purpose. All terrain is equal in the eyes of the League (...except of course for the specific purpose of judging competitions...)
Please post as many
WIP shots as you can (starting with your
raw materials if possible) We all like to see how others work (and perhaps we can learn a few things from each other along the way) Regular posts in this thread at the top of the page allowing more people to find this contest. (This of course means you'll have more competition but it will just be that much sweeter when you eventually win and in front of a bigger audience too) Posting
WIP shots, allows others to give feedback, share Ideas and engage in banter (keep it clean though, after all...think of the children.)
IMPORTANT!
while I want to see plenty of
WIP pics, don't post your finished project here we want to save that for the big reveal and public vote.
When you are finished
PM me your pics for consideration by our expert judge (me)
Speaking of Pics, Good photos win competitions, I can't judge what I can't see. And if you incorporate any, lights, sounds or moving parts send a video so we can all bask in the warm glow of your mad modelling skills.
Rules:
1: Talk about fight
cl...er...I mean...the Competition.
2: Talk about the Competition! Tell everyone. Post it in your blogs. Add the banner to your signature.

change all the "{" to "["
It should look and work like this one:
3: Must be completed by the deadline.
And when I say "must", I mean "around then". I hardly know what I'm going to do this weekend let alone in two months time and I hold all of you to the same lax standards as myself.
The Deadline is midnight on the 13th September 2017
My local time is NZST/GMT-12 ( check it here for accuracy:
Kiwi Time )
But anything sent on your local 13th of September will be accepted, I understand that some of you are a bit slower than us down here and are still working your way through yesterday as I move on to tomorrow
4: Your piece should be scratch-built or heavily converted. Model kit parts can be used, especially if used in an unusual way, but you will get more points for something you sculpt yourself, so keep that in mind. Unconventional parts are highly recommended in addition to those you will be using as part of this competition.
5: Your model should be a piece of terrain or a diorama that can be used for gaming purposes. It cannot be a playable model in itself (a crashed tank must stay crashed), but removable models (people) are fine.
6: Any scale, any setting and any gaming system are welcome. A nice mixture of fantasy, sci-fi, historical, or modern will make this contest all the more interesting. If you don't play a game, that's fine too; just make a display piece, but keep rule 4 in mind.
7: The women are right, size doesn't matter. You can make as small or as large a model as you want. Bear in mind the time-scale and don't bite off more than you can chew. We've all made that mistake!
8: Final Entry: Six or more photos of your final entry, showing top, front, both sides, back and all the important parts - not to be posted in this thread.
PM me with links to your galleries, albums, etc. As said above, please take the time to take the best photos that you can. Idealy your
PM will include Photos, a description of what materials went into your entry and any specific techniques used, feel free to include some fluff/background/context to help everyone fully grasp your terrain genius.
9: AMBITION: Push yourself. Try something new! Always wanted to use LEDs? Go for it! Fancied weathering powders? Here's your chance! I'll be looking at your galleries for previous work, entries etc. I want everyone to feel that their best has a fair shot at this. This is very important, Another words it might not be the BEST model that wins, but the one that has shown themselves to have pushed that envelope.
10: Not so much a rule, but it wouldn't be the League of Extraordinary Riveters if there are no rivets. This also means similar small details are highly valued (rivets are the best example of this level of detailing).
11: Sprue. Find a use for the often discarded wonder material and bonus points will be yours.
12. Small bonus for being small, I have repeatedly seen amazing large pieces being made, and am guilty myself of such, however so many fall by the way side because the thing grows arms and legs and runs away with time. So a small bonus will be awarded to those who can give me a piece on a CD or less. This is not a hard and fast rule. See Rule #6 for size matters.
13. THE RULE OF COOL trumps all.
If you are unsure of anything just ask away.
Judging will be an Archaic formula of my own devising with bonuses for; creativity, coolness of concept, clever use of components/materials, the Judge's gut feeling and public voting.
Push yourself, folks. Go the extra mile.
Prizes:
Membership to the League of Extraordinary Riveters as top prize. You will be allowed to fly the League's banner and be recognized as a modeller devoted to Rivets.
Warm feelings inside and the bragging rights that your peers love your work.
Judges: Me and potentially EVERYONE ON DAKKA (no pressure)
Even if you are not entering feel free to comment and ideas, they really boost the community.
I think that's everything. LoER veterans, let me know if I missed any details.
That's it, people! Now quit reading this and go make some terrain!
