Subject: Carnevale 2.0 kickstarter by TT Combat (final day)
Carnevale is a tactical narrative miniatures game set in 1790's Venice. Safe from the effects of the Rent in the Sky that tore Italy in half, Venice is now a hot-spot of magical activity. Strange creatures rise from the canals, the ruling class play violent games with lesser men, and the population of Venice try to survive. All vie for power in the street fights that take place in the dark of the night.
Carnevale is a game that focuses on movement and brutal combat. You're as likely to see two people battling in the streets as you are to see warriors jumping from rooftop to rooftop and drowning their opponents in the canals. Using the tight streets and watery dangers to your advantage will ensure victory, and if it doesn't, some well-timed magic spells might!
Carnevale is a narrative game that sees gamers play through various scenarios with their gangs of fighters. The games skirmishes allow for in depth storytelling, and we have made an effort to streamline rules in order to let the action take place on the tabletop, rather than spending too much time keeping track in the pages of a rulebook. The tactical flexibility opens up when building your gangs how you want, using many varied members to different effect.

Resin minis and card terrain? Very nice. My one issue with properly getting into the game was the fact I didn't have the time/money/effort to commit to the sort of terrain-heavy table it needed, card buildings is a nice workaround. Some nice minis by the looks of things as well, definitely one to keep an eye on.

A quick question: There is some absolutely stunning stuff here, and I will almost certainly be getting a few of these, but what is the scale of the miniatures? 28mm heroic? 15mm?
"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"
"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"
Are there any game examples, run through rules etc?
I understand there are videos from a few years back, but this is a new streamlined edition.

Good to see the game coming out. Bad to see someone fudging with an already great rules set.
I guess the other three Kickstarters were practice runs.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.
I wonder what will happen to the old range? There are some figures I want in it. It looks like the kickstarter is all new, though some of the figures are resculpts. Generally nice I must say. And 8 MFD buildings for 35 pounds is not bad either, though they are a bit plain.

Troll Trader bought the game after the previous company went out of business.

At least when TT bought the game they said they'd still be selling them as Carnival Classics. Assume that's just old stock and they won't be recasting things as they sell out but you can get them here https://ttcombat.com/collections/carnevale

You wanted a £1 pledge and the ability to pick and choose miniatures? YOU GOT IT!
You wanted a £150 pledge with added value? YOU GOT IT!
You wanted more value in the £300 Noble pledge? YOU GOT IT!
You wanted more rulebooks in the EVERYTHING PLEDGE so you can share with friends? YOU GOT IT!
It doesnt finish there, we added an mdf bridge set and the venetian dice tower to stop your pesky dice making a break for the canals! Both of these were added to the EVERYTHING PLEDGE.
We moved the stretch goals to lower, more quickly achievable targets to increase the chances of people getting more for their money.
The office is a hive of activity and we have new resin production miniatures, new paint jobs, new 3d prints, new scenery and MORE to show you tomorrow. All of which will be added to the EVERYTHING PLEDGE free or charge. That thing should be a BEAST by the end of this campaign. Tomorrows update will also bring some videos, details on the live sessions and more! Look for them at 5pm daily!
I really like the concept, the miniatures, and the price. But... sadly it's another skirmish game, there are way too many already! Time isn't on my side...
the plan is for the Original metal range to (largely? the old rule book for one will be gone once sold out) remain available here. They talk about spincasting more of the sold out stuff in the comments
The two factions in the starter are fixed (no point in asking to swap them out), they're specially selected/designed single piece casts designed to make the game as playable as possible out of the box
(and presumably as economical as possible to cast)
I would have backed but I'm just totally out of cash right now between moving and other recent KS's. Looks like it's close to funding though, good for them
If you were finding ..... the newer digital sculpts a bit bland as some seem to be in the comments the older stuff will be available for you to use so don't give up on the game
Gosh I know that 1790s Venice is not the most intuitive setting for a modern British and American gamers but wow little touches like this are really, really cool and inspiring:
... detritus floating on the canal waters! Haha, would be good fun to have these things floating about creating dynamic terrain.
Despite being an actual, real place, or at least based on one, this remains one of the most innovative and interesting of the skirmish games out there and I'm getting sorely tempted to weigh in on this KS.
Well, the rules were posted and they were enough to tip me into backing.

so the starter box (£60) is looking pretty good with 7 free minis (21 minis in total now), a resin gondola, extra card building (12 total now), spell & character cards, custom dice (I presume instead of the normal ones rather than in addition), acrylic templates and metal coins unlocked for it

Yeah, the £60 is awesome. I ended up pledging just under the £150 mark since the SG's for that don't really go with all the card buildings. But I'm getting a bunch of Guild Stuff - the Barber and Butcher from the faction set, the Guild Set B, and the Puclinellas from Guild Set A (not super interested in the Harlots atm, and the £100,000 SG was a new Pulcinella sculpt, and since Pulcinellas get bonuses for being in groups...)
A friend went in for the Ospedale starter, a bundle set, and the Frankenstein set, so the £60 pledge will give us tons of terrain to work with.
Are the buildings all the exact same size, or is there some variation in their height and width?
I'll admit to being pretty tempted by this one. Someone sell me on it- what's it do that my other skirmish games don't, besides have the whole Venetian thing going on?
Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

Some of the gameplay looks cool, especially the concept of the fate die, which means you might fumble or crit during an action. The setting also lends itself to some of the cool movement abilities, like swimming through or riding a gondola along the canals, or leaping from rooftop to rooftop before dropping on someone from above (I've seen some people describe the game as being like Assassin's Creed 2).
