This was announced during Lock and Load Weekend, but I couldn't find anywhere discussing it

What do you think?

I think that there are going to be three ways to look at this:
1. As a capitalistic venture, getting exclusive one off miniatures could be an excellent investment.
2. As a gamer, unless they are stand-ins for in game models, they are going to be either display pieces or used for things like Iron Kingdoms or D&D rpgs.
3. Considering the first model, players of mk3 might give it a pass unless there are rules released for the models.

and if they sneak in Orion by this method, a lot of Convergence players are going to be PISSED.

My understanding is that they are/will be playable models. They will be variant poses of models that already exist (a la the bathing beauty).

That is what they said in the keynote - all of the models are essentially variants. Purchasing this does not change game play at all.

The only confusing thing is that people that don't buy them may not automatically know the model it is a variant on (at 1 a month, it may be hard to keep up). Like the first model being sent out is the swamp siren which is a variant for the swamp horror. These two models look absolutely nothing alike. Not even the same species.

I think it is a good idea as a revenue stream for a company that makes good looking models to have something available that can be used in the game but does not NEED to be used in the game.

I'm probably going to buy into this, but I'm hoping they aren't all "funny" variants like di wulf in sheeps clothing. I would like to see variants for models that should be resculpted.

Don't get me wrong. I am going to do it too, but depending on the lead time, I will likely just enroll month to month depending on which models are released. I don't use swamp horrors or di Wolfe, so I'm going to pass for now.

I find it a strange thing to be focusing on with all the other stuff on their plate.
MrkIII still needs shoring up
IK needs Support
Skull Island just needs more releases, love their stuff.
Have no Idea if they are going to continue to support the IK board game line after widowers woods.

I don't know

This is how I feel too.. To me I think Loot crates are a gimmick thing no matter what company does it and its time is limited before people stop buying them.

Also feel that they need to focus on the games and miniatures that the company is made for; If they are not selling.. figure out why they are not... Just

don't put them in a special box and hope that will help sales.

I am not a major player of either game but I know locally that 40k 8th edition has stolen alot of PP players because they are not happy with the current edition.

I would start with fixing the boat from sinking before making a new custom oar to row with...

I don't think PP sat down and said, we can start Mini-crate or create more skull island or support IK board game etc. If history has shown anything with PP, it is that their mini line and their main game Warmahordes are their only products they've had success at over a long period of time. Whether that is then half-assing some of those other product lines or interest just disappeared can be argued.

I don't think they need to worry too much about losing market share to Games Workshop as Games Workshop is a mini company, not a game company. Huge numbers of players aren't going to just ditch the hundreds if not thousands of dollars they've invested into Warmahordes to spend more hundreds/thousands on getting into 40K/Sigmar. I bet a lot of players out there already own product lines from both companies already (that's what I've done). They may shelve Warmahordes for a while to play 40K, but GW is notorious for pissing off their player base every now and then.

With PP's changes to their release schedule with the theme forces, I could see a player buying a lot at once and then not buying anything for a long time. I play Cygnar and Everblight. I'll be buying the Trencher theme and then the Blighted Ogrun theme, after that, it will probably be a couple years before I'll be buying a large quantity of anything from their line as they roll out the themes from the armies that I don't have.

PP has shifted a lot of its production to plastics, restics and resins, but they still have all their original facilities for making metals. This is likely a way to continue making use of that. I'd also guess its a way to help attract and retain talented sculptors. Providing an outlet for people to make creative things that aren't in line with the defined aesthetics is a good way to keep creative types from wandering to new challenges. PPs modeling delays have almost always been due to production lag when they switch materials; they're very good about having all the sculpts done ahead of time. I don't think this is likely to have any real impact on their schedule. It's more about monetizing slack.

The annual christmas releases are their way of maintaining
interest during lulls in people's shopping. It also seems like it will be a way to lull people into becoming interested in other factions
as they go.

I'm inclined to be revolted. I don't like "artificial shortages". I don't like to buy stuff I cant see first.

Maybe if I see lots of quality Swamp Sirens on 50mm bases I'll revisit the idea. I could be wrong but I just don't believe that for $16.99 including shipping I'm getting a full size Heavy Warbeast.

If you look at the reseller forums people are leaving pp in droves. My meta is dead, pp literally has piss ed off a meta of 20 people to the point where only the waac players remain, everyone else is playing gw games. Pp screwed up the one thing they were good at with the new edition, my flgs isn't restocking stuff because nothing is moving off the shelves unless it's new khador or cygnar. Hell the forums here are dead, as they are all over the internet. If they don't get their game straightened out they will be dead, they don't have a market as a mini company because they suck compared to other companies in cost, quality and customizabiliy. They alienated a huge portion of the fan base by killing the forums and making it difficult for casual fans to stay involved in the game.

I see this locally also but there will always be people saying its not happening.. There is a ton of people on my local Facebook group that
are selling their armies for penny's on the dollar and just getting out... Sad thing is no one is in the market of buying..

Also with loot boxes and even Funkco Pops.. there is a limit that hits of market saturation.. And just like beany babies there will come a day
that they will no longer sale..

As a previous poster said..If I wanted something I would just go out and get it.. Don't like the idea of random junk being sent to my house...

Pressganger sold off his army, which surprised almost everyone else that was still playing WMH. Even the longest playing WMH player said a lot of people were stopping cause PP made too many mistakes recently

I'm guessing PP lost quite a few PG's when they scrapped the PG program.

If you are a painter, then this mini-crate is for you.

If you are a collector, then this mini-crate is for you.

If you are a gamer, this mini-crate is NOT for you.

$17/month is... well, that feels like a lot to me for a model that you won't see until after you have paid. Using the model in a game sounds great on paper, but consider: How many factions are there in WM/H? It's going to really suck if you are a Cryx player, and you end up waiting almost two years for your "special" miniature, only for it to be a varient Brute Thrall or Skarlock in a chipmunk suit. Really, what if you only play 1-2 factions, and you don't see a model for those factions for a long, long time?

Step up to the ViP package and get as special, 7th model (Gorman in a bunny suit...). And you'll also save a whole $3. But you'll gain exclusive coupons and offers I'm sure for the online store, where you can pay MSRP, tax, and the ridiculous shipping charges PP levies. What kind of "special deals" can they offer? 10% off a No Quarter subscription? Being able to buy a Skull Island book a month early? Maybe a "unique" army deal for a theme force conveniently bundled into one box (and costing MSRP of course!)? Oh I know! Buy a Shredder Plushie and receive a Coleman Stryker Action Figure free! Just pay the additional processing, shipping and handling fee.

What I'm getting out of this variant model is that you'll have a unique model on the table. Marching along side your Storm Blades and Stormclads, Stryker on his warcharger, will be Gorman de' Wulf in a bunny suit. Or how about your Gatorman army, with all it's fierce looking undead gators, and then a hyper sexualized naked elf looking thing with tentacles on a large base.

Ah well. It's only $17/month. I can think of far worse things to spend that kind of money on (like a rack of Bud Light...).

$17 for a mini that I haven't seen yet? Yeaaaaah that's kind of a hard sell PP. I would expect a t-shirt or a stupid magnet or something on top of the mystery figure.

I think people signing up for these know what they're in for. If
you don't think it's up your alley, then don't sign up for it and don't
worry about something that other people have and you don't.
These models represent existing models. Nothing to worry about
if you don't want them.

I'm not worried about this box. Why would I? I just think $17 is excessive for a single miniature that you aren't sure whether or not you'll like. If that is fine to you then great. Fantastic.

It's also ancillary to me whether or not these will represent new units. I'm talking about the actual value of the item.

It's priced similarly to other models they have sold like this (15 dollar kilt lifter I think and 20 blindwater brew), and keeping them limited in sales allows them not to bloat inventory.

It's a little more than your standard loot crate, but you know you're getting a collectible for a fantasy world you enjoy.

I don't think it's bad value at all.
