Hi all,

I'm currently involved in an escalation league at my local store, and over the course of the league so far I've been coming to a simple conclusion. My lists so far have been that guy lists. I've done my best to stay off the web and just go off my own army and box of models, but I think the fact that I'm 10 and 0, with tabling my opponent 6 times means I'm clearly being way too optimized(yes I realize I should have picked up on this sooner). So in an effort to avoid that this week, I am posting 3 alternate lists and asking for feedback about which one people think would most fun to play against. All are at 1500 points. All feedback welcome.

List 1: (1493 points)
Spearhead Detachment
HQ Yvraine

HS:
5 Dark Reapers
5 Dark Reapers
1 Lynx with sonic Lance

Outrider Detachment
HQ Yncarne

FA
5 Swooping Hawks
5 Warp Spiders
5 Warp Spiders

List 2:

HQ Yncarne

Elites:
5 Fire Dragons

FA:
5 Swooping Hawks
5 Warp Spiders
3 Scatter Laser Windriders

HS:
Lynx with Sonic Lance
Warp Hunter

Transport
Wave Serpent w/twin bright lances

List 3:
Spearhead
HQ: Yvraine

HS:
Lynx
Warp Hunter
5 dark reapers
5 dark reapers

Outrider
HQ: Warlock

FA:
6 Swooping hawks
5 warp spiders

As a fellow eldar player I can't really see what makes your list so effective. I'm the bottom at my club and I've been playing wraith heavy list. The only thing that may be making your list op is not using a standard troop though. I tend to lose any game type but I always build my list around gaurdian defenders as my troops.

At 1500 I'd being playing 3 wraithlords 2 spiritseers and three gaurdian squads,, a squad of wraithblades and 2 squads if wraithgaurd. Against my local Nids, necrons and space wolves I'll most likely lose or barely come to a draw.

Your three list are almost identical also which shows that your building around your play style just like I build around mine. The special hqs can be a pain and all of the elites you've taken are the one I don't own and I see show up in most net list. The flaw in 40k is that 1500 is not equal to 1500 all the time.

Well, what it really comes down to is limited unit availability. I don't have any troop choices at the moment as my army was all wind riders for troops last edition. I'm currently building an Imperial Fists army, so I haven't really bothered to pick up any troops so I can only field spearhead or outrider detachments. It has been interesting playing around that limitation though.

The main thing that has made my lists very effective so far has been pairing Yvraine and a full sized dark reaper squad. Using Word of the Pheonix + Ancestor's grace to allow that squad to reroll ones and shoot twice per turn has tended to allow me to burst down whatever the most threatening thing on the board is early.

I also tend to position my warp hunters around whatever I'm castling my dark reapers in first turn to make it so anything that deep strikes and charges has to charge the warp hunters first, allowing it to inflict pain with it's flamer.

The armies that I have played against so far are:
Grey Knights (probably my closest game)
Regular Space Marines
Tyranids
Orks (mobs w/da jump build)
Orks (dreadnaught army build)
Space Wolves
Primaris Space Marines
Necrons
Imperial Guard

Mix of results:
After today:
12 wins, 0 losses, 8 by tabling opponent, 4 by concession. I have yet to hit turn 5 in a game in 8th.
Most games I go first, focus on kiling my opponents long range-weaponry or unit that can hit my lines first
If I don't go first I hide everything I can behind LOS blocking terrain, then pop out on my portion of turn 1 to fire. Since almost all of my heavy weapons can avoid the -1 to hit from moving, this doesn't hurt my firepower. Warpspiders typically get used for hunting for objectives or for blocking charge lanes.

It's definitely not like playing against ig tank spam.

Perhaps you're just a better player. BUT that doesn't mean that you aren't still, in a way, "that guy". I'm an IG player and was winning a lot even last edition, so now I'm also thinking about ways to not be "that guy" in casual settings.

If you're crushing your opponents, it's time to stop playing against them and start playing against yourself. In other words, place artificial restraints on yourself.

You might want to build a list with no more than one of anything:

See if you can fool your opponents into shooting at the wrong unit. That sort of thing. Every trick you get away with feels awesome and teaches you something.

Or pick a list that will teach you a lot. For example, next time I go to combat patrol, I'm considering bringing 100 conscripts and a few characters to hide in the middle and buff them. Maybe I'll NEVER FIRE A SHOT, or just enough to get first blood. My goal will be to not grant first blood or slay the warlord, to get linebreaker, and to swamp any objectives. The question each battle will be "how can I save as many bodies as possible? Win or lose, I'll learn a ton about maneuvering conscript blobs in 8th edition, since my opponents are sure to try everything they can think of and fumble into some things neither of us thought of.

I might even tell each opponent what my goal is, or impose other artificial restraints on myself. At the end of the day, both me and my opponents will be way more familiar with conscripts and their abilities, and my opponents will learn (or start brainstorming) how to stop them.

You're playing Ynnari. You're always be TFG.

As for lists, they seem fairly fragile to me (except for #2) - there are stronger lists out there even for casual games. How's that Lynx performing for you?
