I was playing Space Hulk last night, and noticed the great markers for a model's status (Overwatch, Jammed, Psychic Powers Etc Etc). Thereafter my opponent and I played a game of 40k 8th, to which he inquired how my Elysian Drop Troop Orders work now. After explaining that at the beginning of their shooting phase, my officers elect targets for the orders, my opponent quite wisely commented that, the system, could be difficult to keep track of. I shrugged it off, and continued, not thinking twice.
I've just decided to make some order counters for each of my armies officers, with each counter having a symbol representative of the order type, and coloured or numbered to correspond to how many orders he can issue. Now I am thinking that it could be quite a time saver, and also a helpful prompt to actually remember to issue the damn orders (when in the heat of the battle sometimes I forget a order or two). A spare set of 7 bases could act as one group of orders. For company commanders with two orders to issue, I could paint the first set of 7 Blue, and the second set of orders he can issue Red. Each officer can have a separate pool of these, and I can keep them table side, to dish out when needed.
Ideas for the symbols are pretty straight forward...
-"Take Aim!" could be a Crosshair
- "First Rank Second Rank Fire" could be two lasguns one behind the other (or four)
- "Move Move Move" could be two boots
- "Move and Fire" (Elysian specific order) - could be a boot and a lasgun
- "Bring it down" A projectile penetrating a heart ?
Anyways, you get the gist of it - Perhaps they could simply be vector designs, and printed/stuck to cardboard. May be a lot easier! I might mock up the designs quick, and if anyone wants them shared I could share them out.
Thanks all for reading my stream of consciousness. Cheers!
