Brand new to AoS, just bought the slaves of Darkness Starter. Which book/battle tomes/warscrolls ect do I need to have all the options when building my army. I've been playing 40k for about 20 years now and played Mordhiem back in the day so I'm not new to war gaming. I've just never played AoS. Please be specific and complete in any answers because I have no idea how to play AoS and what books are out there for chaos. Thanks for any help.

P.S. I understand basic rules are free on the website and all point costs are in the Generals handbook.

You don't realy need any book for open/narative play, all the unit rules are online. But if you want a book with the rules for the slaves of darkness, you'll need the grand alliance: chaos book. And you'll want to get the ghb later this month. A new version will come somewhere this month

For Slaves to Darkness, as terry said, you need the General's Handbook (which is being updated sometime this month) for points costs, allegiance abilities, and artifacts. Other than that, books are optional. All the rules for the army are available either online or through the Age of Sigmar app if you have an Android or Apple device. I prefer physical media myself, so I also use the Grand Alliance: Chaos book, which also lists a few battalions for us.

2000 Khorne Bloodbound (Skullfiend Tribe- Aqshy)
1000 Tzeentch Arcanites (Pyrofane Cult - Hysh) in progress
2000 Slaves to Darkness (Ravagers)

Just going to add that if you want to do a Tzeentch StD list, pick up the Disciples of Tzeentch book for all the Tzeentch army special rules.

If you want to do a Khorne list, pick up Blades of Khorne.

As has been said above, Generals Handbook 2 drops this month, and is recommended.

But all the stats and rules for your models (but not the Tzeentch/Khorne army rules mentioned above) can be found online for free, or in the Grand Alliance Chaos book if you want something physical to carry.
