I just thought I'd put this here since there are so many qualified applicants here (and many more who think they are.)

https://jobs.games-workshop.com/2017/07/31/rules-writer-nottingham-uk/.

Why just complain about the rules when you can change them? It should be one of us. Dakka members in Merrie Olde England ought to apply.

Wow.. you have to be in Nottingham? I guess GW has changed. For the prior two editions, the rules writers just phoned it in.

Somewhere.

Eh, I've applied for the job before. Even got past round one once, to the 'Write a Scenario for Lord of the Rings in White Dwarf'. Living within commuting distance of Warhammer World does seem to be a boon...

Yeah they phoned them in from the pub after one too many.

Dave - "How do we make 40k more fun?"

Brian - "More models are fun. Lets give Space Marines more models!"

Dave - "Only thing better than more models are free models!"

Brian - "Yeah, lets give them free gak!"

Dave - "Great idea. Phoning it through now - Give Space Marines free gak!"

Brian - "Speaking of free gak,"

Dave - "Yeaj?"

Brian - "It's your round..."

I think that's how it went.

I'm actually tempted but I'm in California and wouldn't have experience in the department outside my proposed rules I had going on here.

They're also looking for a new Grill Chef as well.

You could combine both jobs and come up with a Bar-B-Q and A every month...

I'll leave the building now

I'm gonna hand in my application later today (can't apply for another job while at my actual job).

Here's hoping that the Nottingham thing is only a suggestion, not a requirement.

For AOS, I'll re-write the rules so that Vampires are immune to steaks through the heart...

Nottingham's not a bad place to live. Some crime there, but a good music scene and some decent pubs. Plus, the whole area is wargames central, so once you're finished with GW for the day, you could cross the street and visit the HQ of Warlord Games.

Why would you think it is a joke that you have to work in Nottingham, where their HQ is situated?

Great city.

Never said the place was bad nor said it was a joke, but personal circumstances means I can't move right now.

Probably pretty serious about part of the creative team being on location- I wouldn't try it if you aren't willing to move.

You would think the sheriff would after all this time finally have been able to deal with the organized crime problem in the forest.

Thanks. Some fruit hangs so low that it bumps you on the head if you walk by; criticizing the Kirby era finale is like that.

warboss - heh, cheap shots punching up are still funny. The "timing" in your phrasing made it.

Mecha, yeah, I can only expect that a company like that would hire locally first. Being an international employee, they'd need to deal with all the paperwork vouching for you as as a foreign resident, or they'd need to deal with the inconvenience of you working from a different time zone and not be able to be in the same office, and the difficulty of those hoops is multiplied by the normal risks of any new employee not following through. Basically, unless you blew the competition out of the water, they'll go with ease over someone a little better.

I'm actually used to all that stuff considering sometimes I'm asked to work freelance for a company outside of my country.

But I am also all too familiar with tax incentives that block anyone who doesn't live locally from getting a job. Vancouver is even more draconian depending on which company you apply to, as unless they're really pressed for people they won't hire you unless you're already a resident of the place (and simply saying you're willing to move isn't good enough. They apparently only get the tax break if you're already a resident).

Mecha, fair enough. Adding to that, I believe Nottingham has a similar incentive to the sort of thing you're talking about, unfortunately.

Or give up.

I gave up on GW years ago.

I applied to the previous one, for the Specialist Games studio. Would have applied to this one too had I known about it.

For that one, I received a 5-part evaluation assignment. Because of that, I knew a few weeks ahead of time that Necromunda would follow 8th edition rules, but I was being all professional and kept my mouth shut.

Just got my rejection letter today.
