Question is in the title if you are engaged in cc can you overwatch with pistols if another unit charges?

No, because of this line: A target unit can potentially fire Overwatch several times a turn, though it cannot fire if there are any enemy models within 1" of it."

I could have sworn that I read that overwatch could not be performed if the unit is within 1" of enemy models, ah here we go:
