Hi there, a friend who collects emperors children wants to play his heresy army in 8th. Everything has fitted so far apart from the palantine blades and the Kacophani marines. We have happily agreed on using the Kakophani marines as noise marines but all with blast masters and in a heavy support slot, but we couldnt decide any 'counts as' for the blades. I have made this set of rules, but was wondering if its too powerful? I have based it off the Blood angels sanguinary guard, but i cant decide if its under-costed or simply too good for its power rating? Points will have to come later. Any tweaks or adjustments you guys can make pls go for it>>>>

PALANTINE BLADE Power level: (11)

Wargear:
Bolt pistol
Palatine Falchions: Melee S4 ap-3 d3|Abilities: On a wound roll of 6 the ap becomes -5 instead of 3

Can't they be run as Chosen with power swords? Seems pretty straight forward to me. Looks like he's trying to game for super units in 8th rather than trying to proxy them as 40k EC units.

But you're into writing your own rules and stuff for your friendly games then go wild and have fun!

The movement 12" has to go. They're simply faster than many tanks, this is right out. Infantry normally has 6" move, fast infantry have 7" the very fastest (some DE and prob Harlies and Tyranids have 8" but not much else). Give them M7" to reflect being fast infantry. Also D3 is too high on a unit-wide weapon. I'd either reduce it to a flat 2 or d3 damage. Also -5 rend is too much, this is as powerful as Eldar tech melta and some hulking Daemon or Nidziller weapons. -4 is perfectly reasonable. Or you could have 6's do d3 mortal wounds instead so they'd just bypass all armour and toughness? Though perhaps restrict this to vs non-vehicles.

The Kakophani should be priced higher than regular Noise Marines though. A full squad of Blastmasters is insanely strong. Noise Marines are costed for having only 1 or two of them max. They might warrant a 2-3pt price hike.

Palatines can be upgraded to have Jump Packs in 30k, which could explain the 12" movement, but lacks the Fly Keyword.

Either drop to 6" without packs, and 12"+Fly Keyword with.

Keep it the Falchions at S: User AP: -3 (like a power sword) D2. That way, they're treated like master-crafted power swords (which is what they are). On the wound of the 6, inflict a Mortal Wound (a la Rending, which is what it used to be) on non-Vehicle models.

Otherwise fine, but I would personally have run them as Chosen with power swords, but that's just me.

They/them

Hi, thanks for the replies, appreciate it. Yes i compleetely neglected keywords, they should have the fly keyword and they do have jump packs. My intention is to create balanced rules for these guys, so i deffo dont want them overpowered. If i make the swords regular ap-3 d 2 (mastercrafted powerswords), and one of the 2 damage automatically becomes a mortal wound on the roll of a 6 to wound. Should they still hit on 2s? Any further suggestions, welcome!
