Hello dakka it has been a long time. So long in fact that the big smurf daddy has returned, poster boy cadia has gone and some new shining space marines 2.0 are running about saving the galaxy. Yet no new thunder warrior fluff typical.

Anyhow to the question in hand. As the title says is there any reason why a possessed marine couldn't wear terminator armour? With all that extra demonic muscle they could carry the extra weight. And a few more inches of armour couldn't hurt. I know it becomes flesh armour in possession but armour is armour and what about the added strength they would receive in the melee to can't hurt.

So I'm appealing to veterans of dakka dose anyone know of any examples in the fluff of possessed marines in terminator armour or reasons why this would be against fluff.

As always I apologise for the horrific lack of punctuation and any spelling mistakes.

Theoretically I don't see why not, armour has no bearing on possession. I don't know of any background sources that disallow it from happening, but at the same time I can't think of any specific examples of Terminator Possessed.

At a guess I'd say that Terminator Armour is just too valuable to sacrifice. It's much rarer among the traitor legions and warbands than power armour is and I doubt that once a Possessed Marine is killed much of their wargear is salvageable.

In the casting shack.

Only reason I can think of that a possessed would naturally have terminator armour was if it were possessed while being a terminator.

“I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do.” ― Robert A. Heinlein

The only Daemon Prince in Terminator armour in 40K fluff is Nemeroth in the Space Marine game. A Daemon Prince is not possessed per se, but it's a similar direction.

In the 3.5 Chaos Codex it was possible to give models in terminator armour a whole range of mutations and daemonic gifts, so I guess these would practically be possessed as well.

As Chaos Terminators are usually very dedicated individuals, often even chosen, I think it's highly likely that some of them would choose the path to Possession (or are chosen by the gods to go that way).

I think it's one of those things that's just carried on from 1st edition, like Rhinos only having storm bolters.

Originally, Chaos Terminators were described as keeping themselves apart from the petty bickerings of the post-Legion warbands, effectively acting as small mercenary bands, even while keeping their Legion iconography. they still acted in units of five Marines, rather than the sacred number-sized squads of the World Eaters, Emperor's Children, Thousand Sons and Death Guard, for example. Back then, no self-respecting Chaos Terminator would be so feeble-minded as to open himself up for possession.

Where ever the Emperor needs his eyes

In the novel The Talon of Horus, some of the remaining Justaerin Terminators are Possessed by a Daemon than links their minds.

They should've kept that. It's a cool idea.

No reason why they shouldn't exist, as far as I know.

In particular, we already have a unit that, while not technically "possessed," sure looks the part, in the form of Obliterators and Mutilators.

Certainly possible

But it probably wouldnt be all that desireable.

Power Armor enhances the strength of the use. Terminator armor is the strength of the user. Possessing daemonic strength inside terminator armor wouldnt translate as much to being stronger overall.

Thanks guy for the answers and indulging my museing and I have learned something new about terminators double win. I think they would make awesome miniatures.

Also on a completely unrelated note dakka uses your location for your flag on posts I'm a Brit in El Salvador not an American (not that there's anything wrong with Americans). Just though some of you may be interested.

Same reason Obliterators and Mutilators are seen exclusively in Terminator Armor despite being stated to come from a wide variety of marines.

GW only produced one type of model and are too lazy to encompass every possibility.

Presumably, the CSM in terminator armor are amongst the toughest of the warbands because only the strongest gets the Terminator armours. You have to literally kill the other guy in it in order to get it.

So, those that actually make it to terminator armor are probably on course to become chaos lords themselves. So for them, its either spawn or daemon prince in the end.

I feel that possessed are actually the normal CSMs that are weaker mentally and so they lose themselves more easily. So, those who are already in terminator armor are a lot tougher mentally.

I've not heard that old explanation as to why you don't tend to find cult nor possessed marines in terminator armor, but I actually really like it!

There is an entire unit of Justairin possessed by the same daemon in Talon of Horus. They don't manifest like possessed tho.

That sort of brings up another question: Why are all the Daemon Princes in what looks like mutated power armor instead of Terminator Armor?
