So I have now accidentally toppled over three pots of Agrax Earthshade in a short period of time. I swear the new taller pots are a fething nightmare. Anyone else miss the older smaller pots? Or am I just clumsy?

I mean sure, it's convenient you get more in a pot but when they topple over you'll lose at least half because it's flows so rapidly. Not really saving any money here.

I had this problem. A LOT. I firmly believed in the 'Curse of Nuln Oil'.

Find a salt/pepper or spice rack and use the pieces.

It's the pots in general. Another reason why dropper bottles are so superior.

I just needed to vent, it's so frustrating to spill your shades. Fortunately I haven't ruined any clothes or smeared any models thus far. But it's only a matter of time I'm afraid... I suppose I need to figure out some sort of rack for the pot.

I firmly believe that GW makes their pots intentionally bad. It is impossible to design anything that bad other than on purpose.

This ended the never ending line of spilled washes for me...

It wasn't better with the old ones. The new ones just make you spill more at the same time.

I don't know, but I hate that the old size pots are no longer available. My shades are the one thing that I seen to never run out of, but they're the only thing I can't get in the small pots anymore.

I've never had an issue. What does your work area look like? I work on a big, flat space and only pull out a handful of paints at a time. I've never come close to knocking anything over.

I actually have a pack of bluetac on my desk. Need to start using it for this particular purpose.

I knocked my GW washes over several times: It always happened after trying to close the pot with one hand.

I stopped doing that and I never made a mess again.

I guess it's because you wash straight from pot.

@OP

Its the pots. I like that they offer larger pots but there needs to be the regular old pots again.

I've lost about two or three of the big pots of shade since they were introduced. The best one was when I was pushing the top back on and it squeezed out sideways and did a sort of somersault in the air, spraying wash in every direction including straight up. If you've ever seen a pic of my cluttered workstation, and how many models I have on the go at once, you'll know how much fun that was.

If you put it on a palette before using it you will only be able to spill as much as you have put out

Buy your three main washes (nuln/agrax/sepia I guess).

Now put a few rubberbands around all three of them a few times, turning them into a trifecta of washes that cant tip over.

(Or just transfer them into dropper bottles)

GW pots don't unexpectedly squirt their whole load over your palette.

Ruin, the key is to not simply push when you encounter a flow problem, that's really the case when most dropper bottles go barfing all over your pallete - there was a small clot in the tube, you pushed harder, and only got somewhere when the clot broke through or was pushed through by sheer force.

I kept my old shade pots and decant into those. But still, I sometimes manage to knock even those over. So I always stand the open pots in the lid of my home made wet palette, which is a plastic tray about 3/4" deep. That way they're even more difficult to knock over, but if I do, I can just pour what has spilt back into the bottle.

I am very accident prone, so I need to take all the precautions I can.

IMO pots are a thing of the past. Every other major company went with dropper bottles and for a good reason. Bottles are just more practical.
Paint will last way longer, its easier to mix on the palete cause you know the exact amount of paint (1 drop measurement).
There are hundreds of people who transfer paint from pots to dropper bottles. I haven't heard many or any the other way around.

You waste so much more paint with pots. Every time you open (paint goes on the rim) the pot and pick some paint out with a brush a bit will go to waste.
Mixing paint it's even more tidious, cleaing brush every time it goes to a different pot.

I know it sounds like a conspiracy theory but GW use those pots just so people would waste and buy more.

Regarding squirting I'm using a trick that I read somewhere how to prevent excessive spillage of paint of of a dropper bottle.

Remove the cap from the bottle and than gently squeeze some air out and while holding the bottle in that position close the cap.
Now you can shake the bottle like is the last thing you will do in your life. When you open the bottle some air will flow in and prevent
the paint from squirting. Hope it helps.
