Just something I noticed... The Rogue Trader Rhino was out from ~1988 to ~2001 when it was replaced by the Mark II Rhino. A respectable 13 years.
The Mark II Rhino is now 15 years old
I guess it shows it was a good kit since it doesn't look dated the way the original Rhino did by the end.
Course it and all the Secondis Marines may go the way of all things sometime... We'll see.
EDIT for comparison:

It's a pretty good kit. It's got some assembly trouble that an updated kit could get rid of, but nothing that can't be fixed before painting, leaving a very good basic model to build on.
I don't really see the point in replacing a kit that still works better than some other newer kits.
And the secondis marine comments just come off looking like petulant crying at this point. It's getting really dull seeing it in every thread when there is no proof to even hint at it.

Still a great looking little kit, tbh. Think it demonstrated what a great design it was that it doesn't look remotely dated next to newer stuff.

Of course, one reason it doesn't look as dated is that the rest of the Space marine line has now lasted nineteen years with only minor changes to the overall look and feel.
Compare a Tactical marine in the current box to one from the set released with 3rd edition in 1998. Better details, a wider variety of poses and options, but they look fine next to each other. Now compare that marine from 1998 to an RTB01 plastic Marine, or one of the original metal marines.

I have to be honest I didn't realise they had updated the Rhino kit.
They look almost identical to me, I had to google a 'side by side' image to notice the differences! Don't most people still use the 3rd edition Rhino?
I still have a few old Rhinos and a Razorback kicking around in a shoebox somewhere and I'm sure I 'm not the only one, they were such common kits and so widely bought that I think we will be waiting a while before they become rare!

Yeah I see what you mean, I was trying to say that you can see the Primaris Minivan as a replacement rhino but it came out bitter. Besides the Mark II is still in production.
Hmm, random thought, I can make an army with my RT marines as normal and my 3rd edition+ marines as Primaris...

Must admit I prefer the Deimos versions of the Rhino and Predator and the Proteus Land Raider.
But I am an old fart and nostalgia isn't what it used to be....

As a CSM player that kit is downright painful to look at these days. In contrast to the AoS Khorne releases and the ne Kharn.
Apologies, no de-railment intended.

Well that's an unexpectedly adult response to have on the internet to a passive aggressive jibe.

I've always found the Forgeworld Deimos pattern kit for the rhino to be absolutely amazing. It's probably one of my most favourite kits in the 40k range.

I've always found the Deimos to be a much more sensible design. The newer Rhino is a turn-off for me and is a bit too chunky/busy. The FW version is better. I ended up making my own Rhinos because I disliked the current kit so much.

The Falcon chassis is 20 years old (I remember when it came out). The Berserker kit is I think 18? (I think it came out late 1998 or 1999).

Ah, yes. The Falcon was mentioned in August's "twenty years ago in White Dwarf" article. Ragnar Blackmane and Njal Stormcaller date from 1992 (and have been present in every edition of 40k!), but the Chaos Familiars are the oldest models remaining in the range, dating from the 1980s.

Awesome research!
Are the Viper and Falcon the oldest plastics? Or the Jetbike?
Did Marine bikes ever get upgraded?

Maybe it's just me, but every MkII Rhino I ever assembled had the top hatches too big and close together that they didn't both fit unless I severely cut them down in size. Anyone else have this problem and/or a good solution to it that doesn't involve a knife or a file?

Marine bikes are still the same ones that came out in 2nd edition. Scout bikes are more recent (5th edition?). The earliest reference I can find is the 1997 Annual:
http://www.solegends.com/citcat1997/index.htm
The Ork Wartrakk was introduced in Gorkamorka, and the Warbuggy came out separately around the same time; they seem to debut in that same catalogue.
The Vyper and Falcon don't show up until the 1998 Annual:

The Rhino is like the Ork Boyz. As they aren't humans or humanoid miniatures, they age much better.
Seriously, the Ork Boyz still look very good side by side with Skitarii Rangers and the newer infantry.

So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

The Mark II rhino is a good kit. Once, you get things that work, you probably don't need to go back and change it quickly. As an example:
With studies on what vehicle to replace M113s with in rear-echelon units ongoing, the M113 is not likely to be phased out of U.S. Army service until after 2030, over 70 years after entering service.

What? First, there is a massive size difference, second the exhaust pipes on the sides are built up out of the armor rather than tiny little stick-on things. The hull of the original consists of just two identical pieces that are stuck together.
They aren't even close to identical.

The space Marine Bike is kinda weird in that they did update the sprue to include all the components on one sprue rather than two (the wheels weren't on the original). They also added a modern backpack instead of the older 2nd-3rd edition one. But the design of the bike has not changed, just the sprue and backpack.

SM get a new release every month, now even the rhino should be replaced? Orks haven't received a single new release since 2014 other than some useless sprue added to an already existing kit (making it 50% more expensive).
There are 100+ miniatures/units that should be replaced first and 100+ new units/characters that other factions deserve before even starting to think about a new rhino.
