So I'm pretty much a beginner here. I got into table top painting back in like '96 or so, I started with WH40k but was terrible at painting and ended up just giving up and throwing away all my minis at one point (don't worry, back then what runs for $500 today only cost about $220 back then). Every few years I always come back to wanting to rejoin WH40k but the cost is impossibly prohibitive and the painting quality is ten leagues beyond me. However, there's plenty of other stuff that's reasonable and so I've gotten back into it, at least for now. While painting is meant to be a relaxation thing for me, it's simply more frustrating than anything when everything I touch sucks. I mostly paint Bonez minis. They're cheap so I don't feel nearly as bad about how awful at doing this I am. My issue is my hands and my brushes, though I don't have any 'condition' I shake like I'm on drugs when it comes to painting and no matter how many videos I watch online nothing seems to click for me. I can't shade, layer, highlight, do eyes or pretty much anything. I can't even manage details, color just goes everywhere, it's really sad. But I'm still trying, doing my best just to look at it as a affordable hobby and most of the time when it comes to D&D minis I can paint them at least mildly better than the out of box pre-painted ones so it's better than nothing I suppose. Can't paint a straight line to save my life though. I wish there were some classes on this that I could take but I have no idea where to begin on the subject, I certainly can't afford college art classes. I'm also completely lost on brushes. I bought a slightly better set of golden taklon from my local walmart, but I think they're not so good. When I watch the pros paint, the paint comes off their brush like a pen or something, where ever they touch the paint just instantly comes off perfectly, even thinned I have to virtually force the paint off my brushes OR i thin them so much the model acts like a sponge and the paint gets sucked off the brush and all over the model. Oh well, I got a handful of models left before I either get better or call it quits for good. So I've come here, I've been directed here by google a few times when I was researching some info and figured I'd join up and hopefully, maybe, if I was super lucky, maybe some people could help me out with some problems I'm having. The tutorials second so far hasn't had anything helpful even with searches, so my next stop after this is the Q&A painting/modelling section. Wish me luck folks! I certainly need it.
