Hey guys. I'm taking my Orks down to NOVA at the end of the month and I'm looking for some advice/pointers/ideas to improve things.

I took the below list to an event recently, and I had 3 really tight, back and forth games that were great fun and decent learning experiences. Da Jump is great, Kustom Mega Kannons are good except when they blow themselves up (17 self-inflicted wounds in one game), and when you roll up against a Prescient Hellforged Falchion with a Chaos Lord making it's guns re-roll to hit, just keep your head down and score the objectives because you'll never beat that thing in a fight! (I was fortunately successful on that point.)

This is the list I took:

Ork Battalion Detachment
HQ: Wyrdboy (Da Jump) = 62
HQ: Wyrdboy (Warpath) = 62
Troops: 19 Slugga Boyz + Nob (Power Klaw) = 145
Troops: 19 Shoota Boyz + Nob (Big Choppa) = 129
Troops: 19 Shoota Boyz + Nob (Big Choppa) = 129
Flyer: Dakkajet (6 Supa Shootas) = 148
Flyer: Dakkajet (6 Supa Shootas) = 148

Ork Spearhead Detachment
HQ: Big Mek (KFF) = 75
HS: Gorkanaut = 364
HS: Morkanaut (KFF) = 374
HS: Mek Gun (Kustom Mega Kannon) = 48

Ork Spearhead Detachment
HQ: Zhadsnark Da Rippa (Warlord) = 122
HS: Mek Gun (Kustom Mega Kannon) = 48
HS: Mek Gun (Kustom Mega Kannon) = 48
HS: Mek Gun (Kustom Mega Kannon) = 48
HS: Mek Gun (Kustom Mega Kannon) = 48

1998pts total

Things that could use some tweaking: the Boyz mobs should be larger, even losing one model to Overwatch after teleporting was knocking a lot of attacks off their total; neither 'naut made it passed turn two in any games I played with them, either practice or in the event itself-- they did suck up some solid firepower for their very brief lives, however.

Also, Zhadsnark was really only there so I could use my favourite model, he's not gonna be good enough to take to NOVA, didn't do much of anything for me.

I'm considering dropping the Morkanaut and Zhadsnark to make a few new additions; I want to fit in a big mob of Stormboyz and Zagstrukk, and up the size of the boyz mobs. I'm also going to try out some burna boyz in a big trakk or maybe a Battlewagon if I can fit it.

Thanks in advance for C+C!

I like the way this set up is going its really well made! And after looking it over a bit this is what I would recommend.

Nobz with Waaagh Banners: their Waaagh! banner ability (all <clan> units within 6" of a friendly Waaagh! banners add 1 to their hit rolls in the fight phase) is amazing because it drops all ork units (excluding some models with the power klaws) to a 2+ weapon skill. I always put one of these guys next to a warboss who has a power klaw so I can have the warboss's attacks become a 2+ 2+ with -3 AP and does d3 damage. They only cost 79 (with wargear) a piece.

Don't get rid of the dakka jets/mek gunz since they can prevent the enemy from staying in a corner and shooting you from afar.

Definitely increase your boy mobs by at least two each and don't forget that models with pistols can fire during the shooting phase even if they are locked in combat.

How many storm boyz/ burna boyz do you have?

Yeah, a Banna Nob was in the list originally, he's very useful traveling with the 'nauts. But fitting him in is a bit on the difficult side.

I have enough stuff for around 30 Stormboyz with up to 3 nobs, plus Zagstruk, and enough for 16 Burnas at least. I haven't used these models in ages so some
need reconstructed, others are being stripped, and so on.

If I really wanted to do some work I could probably put down 50 Stormboyz actually, but it would involve a bit more converting than I really have time to do right now. I have enough rokkit packs from across different editions.

I'd advocate dropping the flyers. Replace them with stormboys to threaten opponents flyers.

I'm not sure how effective the mek guns are as I haven't used them yet, but what about dropping them for a load of boys? Mob up to force opponents to spread fire.

The Dakkajets aren't there to threaten enemy flyers at all, really, but rather to put wounds on units like Eldar bikes and aspect warriors, IG heavy weapons teams, and other high damage ranged infantry units. They can also do a bit of character sniping given their mobility. They've proven their worth fairly well so far!

The Mek Guns also seem necessary to a degree, but I'm thinking of cutting them down to just three for some extra play.

I don't think I'll be adding any more Boyz mobs. More boyz, but not more mobs. I can only Jump once a turn, and any left in waiting are points I might more efficiently spend elsewhere, after a point. I have not felt at all like I needed more mobs, just that the mobs I took were a tad smaller than they should've been.

Storm Boyz with Zagstruk were my MVPs at the Bay Area Open. YMMV.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Another great one is the Meka Dread (FW). That model terrifies people into shooting at it. 16" move on T1. Then charge. Ouch.

Heh. I really do need to pick up a couple of those bad boyz!

I'm pretty excited to try the Stormboyz out this Friday and see them in action.

Here's the list I'm planning on testing out. I should get to play against a Ynnari list, a Bobby G list, and some Genestealer Cult, if I can fit it all in.

Ork Battalion Detachment
HQ: Wyrdboy (Da Jump) = 62
HQ: Wyrdboy (Warpath) = 62
Troops: 14 Slugga Boyz, 9 Shoota Boyz + Nob (Big Choppa) = 153
Troops: 14 Slugga Boyz, 9 Shoota Boyz + Nob (Big Choppa) = 153
Troops: 10 Gretchin = 30
FA: 23 Stormboyz + Nob (Power Klaw) = 217
HS: Big Trakk (2 Skorchas) = 135
HS: Gorkanaut = 364
Flyer: Dakkajet (6 Supa Shootas) = 148
Flyer: Dakkajet (6 Supa Shootas) = 148

Ork Spearhead Detachment
HQ: Big Mek (KFF) = 75
HS: Mek Gun (Kustom Mega Kannon) = 48
HS: Mek Gun (Kustom Mega Kannon) = 48
HS: Mek Gun (Kustom Mega Kannon) = 48

Ork Vanguard Detachment
HQ: Boss Zagstrukk = 88
Elites: Banna Nob = 79
Elites: 5 Burna Boyz = 70
Elites: 5 Burna Boyz = 70

1,998pts

Burnas and Nob go in the Trakk, Mek and Wyrdos in the Gork.

Thoughts?

Your second list looks great. Let us know how you do, I don't think I could build a much better list than the second one for Orks.

If I had some Meka-Dreads, I think I could make some interesting alternatives, lol. But alas....

I don't know if burnas are worth using with only d3 hits each. More boyz for your blobs might be better if you are jumping them.

Tankbustas could be better in a big trakk as a mid-field camping unit maybe.

Yeah tell us how this list worked. I hope it will do well!

Okay, so after a few more test games I decided to drop the Dakkajets. They're really useful against low T elite units like Dark Reapers, and they make solid character hunters if there's space for their base, but against some armies they just don't have anything really valuable to do. I spent a couple games shooting at Conscripts and failing to do any important damage to other stuff and it just felt like the 300pts were better spent elsewhere.

Stormboyz are good, but they tend to just get slaughtered really fast with just one unit. I don't have the models ready to drop 90 or so on the board. They do well soaking up Overwatch from a Raven so Zagstrukk can come in and rip it apart, but is that really what I should be doing with 200+ points?

Also, Orks basically never have any saves unless there's a KFF around. I've played games where my army is taking triple digits in Wounds from enemy shooting just over the course of the first game turn (8th is fething insane!). So I swapped the Gorkanaut for a Morkanaut with KFF; the lesser attacks isn't really that big a deal when you consider it's still got 12 S16 D3 attacks; in most cases that oughtta do!

The good stuff: Big Trakks are amazing. Seriously, if I had the time I might just take an army of like 15 with Supa Skorchas and call it a day. So since I have parts to build two more, I'm at least going to take 3!

Here's what I got for list options. Basically I'm just trying to decide if I should put either Burnas or Tankbustas in the Supa Skorcha Trakks. Tankbustas are a good fit, but the increased cost means cutting in some other places.

LMKWYT?
