I read the rules on "living bombs" (Xenos 2 p. 103) and it still can't answer my question.

I get the point that Spore Mines do not count as models for objectives and all that but cant they block the way for a charge for example?

Overwatching
Let say an enemy unit declare a charge at my 3 Biovore. If i roll some 6 fine! But if i miss with all can i put the mines in order to block the way so the charge can fail?

Blocking the way
Let say i shoot at a very close enemy unit and miss with my 3 shots. Can i put the mines in a way to block the only straight way to my biovores?

Might sounds cheezy but the "overwatch scenario" actually happened last week end and we did not know what to do.

Good question. This hasn't come up in our games yet but I would say you get to put the spore mines down as you want as long as your following the rules, and if you blocked access to the unit with the mines then yes the charge would fail. Granted it would be kinda hard to do so I think but really it would be a case of "charge biovors at your own risk" just like "charge that squad of 4 heavy flamers at your own risk".

FAQ that you cannot overwatch with the Spore Launchers

Page 104 – Biovores, Spore Mine Launcher Insert the following at the end of the rules text: ‘This weapon can target units that are not visible to the firer, but it cannot be used to fire Overwatch.’

In the casting shack.

That's a shame, would of been quite cool.

Thank you very much about FAQ! I really need to make an automatic when looking for bits of advice!

But what about the rest? Enemy still as to go around them and cannot simply ignore them right?

Yes you can, and it is actually a little bit game-breaking. Some players have recommended intentionally moving Biovores in order to LOWER your Ballistic Skill so that you can get more Spores on the board and make it impossible for your opponent to move.

Exactly this. Biovores are pretty stupidly good. You either wound everything up to a titan on 2+ with no saves possible, or you block enemy movement so hard you auto win. Some armies can ignore them (like Eldar) because they can Fly more, but Orks are 100% fethed.

If only there was a way to prevent this, perhaps by randomizing the direction that the mine landed in. Some kind of dice roll, perhaps, that would make the shot scatter...

But that would be Extra Heresy!

TBH all it needs to not be so utterly frustrating is to allow it to explode if anything gets within 2" in the movement phase rather than the charge phase. That way you can at least try and sacrifice models to open the path.

The sporebombs also need to be within 3 inch at the end of the charge fase but that doesn't mean the need to assault themselves and face overwatch. Just move+advance them within 3 inch and explode at the end of the charge face.

Well with split fire now possible to anyone it is not a big deal clear the spore mines (T1/ W1) but hell yeah I am definitely cracking open those old biovore blisters buried in dust!

Please Sempai tell me how I can fire at the Spore Mines before I have to move my battlewagon which is now surrounded on all sides and can't advance up the table to get it's contents into melee?
