Hello Peeps,

As the title suggests, Who was involved in the final stages of the Horus Heresy play? The Attack on Horus Barge, the Vengeful Spirit. I'm painting up forces to game this using Space Hulk rules, and tiles, and need some help assembling the forces.

Obviously, The 'Emprah' plus his Custodes, Rogal, a small escort, and Imperial Fist Terminators, Sanguinius, plus Blood Angel Terminators.

Facing, Horus, plus Sons of Horus Terminators. Now, I'm also going to add Chaos Cultists, as ships crew, assorted lesser deamons. A deamon prince, but, what else?

Power armoured Marines, on both sides?

Imperial Guard? both sides?

Sisters of Silence?

Any help you can give is greatly received, or a link to read through? I've had no luck on the Lexicanuim.

Cheers

John

Here is the original story of the Emperor's final confrontation with Horus. I don't know if it is canon or not anymore but until the HH novels reach this point, it is the only account we have.

Basically, yest, there were plenty of Marines on the Emperor's side as well as various chaotic gribblies on Horus. Curiously, there are no Chaos Marines mentioned though they would surely have been onboard. Most of the Sons of Horus would have been aboard. Horus was keeping his own Legion in reserve for the final assault on the Palace.

No mention of Guard. They would probably have been too squishy to risk in the teleporter. Sisters had not been introduced yet in the fluff at this point and I suspect Custodes may not have been either.

right now we don't know, the only parties we know for SURE where present where the Emperor, Sanguinis and maybe Dorn. for all we know sanguinis and the emperor arrived first, and figured they'd try talking to Horus and Dorn was leading up a larger charge once they lost contact.. not that I think that happened but we cannot rule anything out

Thats all great stuff, thanks. I like the vagueness of it all, gives me a lot of lee-way in what I put on the table.

I seem to remember an Imperial Guardsman imposing himself between Horus, and the 'Big Emps' to protect the emperor? he was then on all the rogue trader era imperial guard flags? has this all been ret-conned since? I apologise, i havent played 40K, only Space Hulk, in about 20years!

it's been retconned and is kinda questionable, as some sources have said he was a custodes, others an imperial fist, now a character with the NAME has appered in the HH series, whom is a perpetual

We know for sure the Custodes accompanied the Emperor

Honestly I'm not even sure if it was ever an Imperial Guardsman on the Vengeful Spirit. Closest cited quote I've seen was that there was a banner for Ollanius Pius who was rumoured to have put himself between the Emperor and an attacker and took a shot for him but it was only put forth as rumour.

Either way, Black Library is liable to change a lot of established background about the Siege of Terra in the Horus Heresy series.

Reading that story still makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck, exactly as it did 27 years ago.

A few things I would change to fit the current narrative, but otherwise, it's a good read (and it had an amazing piece of artwork with it too, if I recall).

Emperor and lots of custodes,
Sanguinius and all the sanguinary guard except azkaelon
Rogal Dorn and I'm guessing a large portion of his honour guard

"It had often been said that Space Marines knew no fear, but when Angron charged, he ran"
