Hi all,

I'm currently looking for some Black Library reading material. However, I'm kind of picky.

I'd rather read stories about the good old Imperial Guard than the Space Marines, so give me pointers on stories to read! I'm also open to stories about/involving inquisitor characters, as they usually have human henchmen. I'd rather stories about humans surviving the horror that is the 40k universe rather than about some power armoured Mary sues.

I've already read the Caiaphas Cain trilogy "Hero of the Imperium" and the novel "17 Hours" so Dakkanauts, help me for some top quality reading!

Peregrine - If you like the army buy it, and don't worry about what one random person on the internet thinks.

Yeah, the Gaunt's Ghosts books are a good read.

The Eisenhorn trilogy is still my favourite out of anything that I've read from the Black Library, though.

Krieg! What a hole...

The Baneblade and other novels titled after Superheavies are cool. Cadian Blood is nice, Dead Men Walking and Down Amongst the Dead Men if you like the super extra grimdark Death Korps.

Eisenhorn series, Inquisitor Wars, the rest of the Cain books. Gaunt's Ghosts as well. For other non-guard books. I like the Night Lord's series and the one off books like 17 hours.

Everything already mentioned. Seconding Eisenhorn.

"The Carrion Throne" I found to be a really good read.

Yes eisenhorn and gaunts books are so damn readable.

Read all the other cains. It only gets better. Love those books.

I second fifteen hours.

Currently out of print, but I could recommend Gav Thorpe's Last Chancers books, starting with the 13th Legion. A good look at life in a Guard Penal Legion. Not too hard to find out there, even being OOP. There were three books - 13th Legion , Kill Team, and Annihilation Squad. If you liked movies like the Dirty Dozen or Inglorious B*sterds, you'll like these books.

The Macharian Crusade omnibus.

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you.

Eisenhorn definately. It's virtually required reading if you're a 40k literature fan.

Storm of Iron hasn't been mentioned yet, so I'll throw that one in.
How do you like siege warfare from the perspective of the Iron Warriors?
It also ties in with Graham McNiell's other Ultramarines books where YMMV.

General 40k:
Ravenor and Eisenhorn, Gaunt's Ghosts, the Night Lords omnibus, The Carrion Throne, Ciaphas Cain, 15 hours, Titanicus, Double Eagle.

From the Horus Heresy novels:
The Outcast Dead, Prospero Burns, The First Heretic, Legion, The Flight of the Eisenstein, the Garro sub-series and The Silent War.
