Firstly..... Do I need to use it?!
I'm definitely a gamer and my models fight on the table top. But I do put a lot of time, effort and detail into my painting. So I assume the answer is probably yes.

In which case, which varnish is best? I bought GW Purity Seal, but on a test model it dried cloudy and dulled metallics to a matte finish. Now I'm reluctant to use it on proper models. I'm painting Ad Mech, so there's a lot of metallics that don't want to be dulled, but I also don't want the cloaks etc looking high shine. Is Satin finish a middle ground? I'm paranoid about wrecking my models which have taken so much time and effort. Ideally I just want a varnish that won't alter the look of the paint underneath.
