Hi guys, just thought I would post some WIP shots of my first models. Please tell me what you think and where I can do better. At this point, I know I need to clean up some missed spots and do highlighting.

Here is one more showing the paldron. Its earlier in the process, but its my best shot of the shoulder.

Oh and any idea on how to "Lion" up my models or make them seem a bit rougher around the edges (their world is a Frankish/Germanic world), I would appreciate it.

Very nice indeed. For some that's better than their best effort. It's certainly a very good start.

For your first models they're coming on really well - a very promising start. Well done!

As for how to 'Lion' up your models - perhaps you could integrate some of the Stormcast Eternals range, as lots of their motifs are Leonid in nature. Similarly, some of the old Empire kits will yield a lot of good Teutonic/Germanic iconography.

Question for the experts, if I were to buy some wolf pelts and paint them in zandri dust, wash, and highlight them appropriately, do you think they would pass as lion pelts or just be tan colored wolf pelts?

I think they would look like tan colored wolf pelts. What would make them stand out as lions requires 2 things.

1) the bulk of the fur needs to be not nearly as shaggy.

2) part of the fur needs to be MORE shaggy and then darker colored for the mane.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Yea, that was my worry. Do you think a gentle sanding would help? Or not even worth the investment?

I think you might want to find some 3rd party cloaks/furs that might fit better.

Damn, these blow out my first models out of the water by an atomic bomb. If these genuinely are your first steps into miniature painting then hats off, very good.

But then again, I was 13, it was the 90's and there weren't bazillions of youtube videos to check for painting tutorials. Good work nonetheless.

Nice progress. For the quartered bit on the knee - try painting a thin line down and across (basically a +) with the smallest brush you have. That creates your quarters a bit more cleanly, then simply fill them in.

Thanks guys! Yea, I know the knee is rough. I've also had some inspiration for lioning up my sergeants/captains/other select peeps. I'm going to get a chaos warrior cloak, make a mold of the top portion and graft it on cloak and such as a sort of mane. I've also ordered a few different tabards to go up front.

First off I want to say great job on your first few models, but never ask if you can do better because hey we all can always do better . Get a few under your belt then experiment with some washes as that will add a new level of depth to the model for you. Keep at it and remember first and foremost to have fun!

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

Very good for first models. Green stuff and a tentacle roller and lion tails would be fairly simple to make yourself.

How/were did you get the should icons. Did you sculpt them yourself?

Popgoesthemonkey.com they have a whole bunch of different ones, both full shoulder pads and just the designs.
