Load up on plasma, a particular vehicle or something else?
I'm going up against world eaters soon and am looking for ideas.
Plasma works good against marines, especially on BS3+ scions or veterans. If you've got Scions, HSVG also does very well against Marines. HSVG are 4 shots S4
Ap-2 at 24". You can bring 4 in a full squad of scions, and reroll 1s with a Tempestor Prime supporting you. That's an average 13 hits, and 7 wounds at -2 to their save. Pretty good for 18 points a dude. I like them in a full squad of scions to use them as extra wounds, and they hit pretty hard also.
You can also get surprising results with sheer volume of fire. A full squad of 3 Mortars do average .75 wounds to
Meq. But they only cost 27 points and they have indirect fire. Load up 4 full squads and you'll see veins start to pop out of your Marine opponents forehead as you roll 36 dice a turn, no matter where he hides, all for 108 points. Sometimes lady luck will be in your favor and he'll roll a bunch of 1s, but even straight odds you'll usually make your points back in two turns.
Taurox Prime does good work as well. Load it up with the Gatling cannon, 2 HSVGs, and a Stormbolter. At 24" you're laying down 22 (24 at 12") S4 shots and 8 S4 -2AP shots, for 98 points. Oh, and they're BS3+. Your opponents will learn to make these a priority target though so watch out.
My strategy for guard so far has been to bring a lot of units that can all do work. It probably wouldn't get me far in a tournament, but its fun and usually successful. My opponent never has any single thing he should be focusing his attention on, which means he's left making hard choices.
