Ok my fellow Space marine fans. i have a group question. ASIDE from the storm wardens. which space marine strikes you guys as being based off of Scottish lore and culture.

If you can leave a web link with your findings if you have third party sources that would be awesome that way everyone can take a look.

Thanks guys

The problem with Scottish space marines is that anyone who took after real Scottish people would declare power armor as being for big jessies then charge into combat armed only with a stick of wood to show them how it should be done. The success of such an act is irrelevant.

The alternate is to make an army entierly of people who chose to become acro-flagellants so that they could get free drugs. Fun fact: the planet of Dundonia has the highest volounteer rate for acro-flagellation anywhere in the Imperium.

Alternately, I imagine certain regiments use nothing but Demolition Charges. "They're gonna have ta gluuuuue ya back together!"

Naturally, they need Preferred Enemy (Everybody).

Groundskeeper Willie: Brothers and sisters are natural enemies, like Englishmen and Scots, or Welshmen and Scots, or Japanese and Scots, or Scots and otherScots. Damn Scots! They ruined Scotland!
Principal Skinner: You Scots sure are a contentious people.
Groundskeeper Willie: You just made an enemy for life!

I imagine Space Wolves could be a good stand-in too:

I'm convinced Groundskeeper Willie is either Canadian or a Highlander (the immortal one, not the geographic one)because wolves have been extinct in Scotland for centuries.

Canadians can't grow facial hair, that would make them all look different - didn't you learn nothing from South Park?
Willie is a Time Lord, we're just yet to see his Tardis.

Back in the distant past when the Space Wolves were more Vikings in Space and less Werewolves in Space the Iron Hands seemed kind of Celtic-ish, lived in clans, had some Celtic-ish themes - they never had tartan though so people argued about their actual nationality.

Pretty sure Albia is their play on Albion, as in Britain. I doubt they thought too hard about it. Magnus quotes Shakespeare and states he was an Albian poet.

But yeah, Storm Wardens are pretty much the closest you'll get in terms of official Space Marine chapters.

Indeed. Due to the Celtic Revival Scotland, Wales and Ireland seem to think they have claim to the name Albion. In fact, Albion is a Greek Word relating to the whole of Great Britain, England included (Ireland was in fact termed Ierne, later Hibernia). Funnily enough, Celt, is also a Greek word.

@Deathclad - I think you'll struggle to find a 'Scottish' Astartes Chapter. The Space Wolves are going to be your closest match as an Anglo-Brythonic-Norse theme.

In any case, it's a struggle to define what exactly 'Scottish' is - it's certainly not Kilts, Haggis, 'Celtic' Knotwork, Tartan or even Bagpipes! (With the first three being English inventions and the latter two being mentioned earlier in English texts than Scottish texts and having examples just as old as Scottish ones - ironic really...) TBH, factually speaking, England is as much Celtic as the rest of them!

Done it
I made greenstuff scarves and sashes, heatgunned fly/mosquito mesh onto them and spray painted them red then peeled the mesh off and pinstriped some black in more obvious areas - no clue who wears red with green and black pinstripes but it looked neat and the customer adored them.

The stereotype I'm used to claimed our family were common borderlanders, English bastards while the Scotts were in charge and a Scottish dogs while the Pomms were in command, I inherited the most irritating genes from my grandfather - pale skin and messy black hair that makes people ask what dye I use and a dislike for the taste of beer.

I mean, that's kind of like asking which astartes seem the most mongolian if you ignore the white scars. The Storm Wardens are kind of the "scottish" marines. I guess Space Wolves are the next closest option based on the tenuous connection that vikings had some impact on scottish culture, but ehhhhh.

ATTENTION
. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.

Honestly, I always imagine space wolves speaking with proper thick Glaswegian accents.

If I was to ever cast actors, or voice actors for a space wolf pack, or great company, they'd all be Scots. They're the best nationality/accent for angry, belligerent, and banter (and I live in Scotland and say this with the greatest of respect and admiration, and probably a wee bit of (probably light hearted) fear)

Scots are great though.

Well when you do get pictures please post!

My plan is to make my HQ units have my Clan's pattern on the right shoulder pad instead of going all out. I'm anti-bling for my dudes, even when the models look super nice (I've probably mentioned before Asterion is one of my favorite models of all time, and I won't use it because of the bling :/)
