I played a while back mostly in 5th and 6th ed. Kinda dropped out in 7th when I didn't want to drop 100 bucks in books for 2 armies. And I found a local store (before just played with a friend and some of his family) and they played most warmachine. So I got into that, then moved and now I don't play much of anything, gave off my tau (1st of my 2 armies) but retained my half company of raven guard incase I ever came back. Well it looks like I'm movingly back down to the area and they've picked up 40k in a big way. So I'm looking at my raven gaurd and at The shiny new primaris marines, and thinking how does this fit in. I had heard that not all the chapters like the primaris and I'm wondering, do they fit in well? Or should I paint them up as a second army (posibly good old ultramarines or some other chapter) also been giving grey knights (always loved the fluff, as the grey knights ombinbus was my first introduction to the universe) and was wondering if the old paladin style list is still decent and how many points (or power level or whatever) can three units of paladins and a dread knight can get me?

Paladins are kool.
Dreadknights are fugly. Dunno how they play tho.
Primaris are... Up to you basically.
Lots of threads on them.
Consensus is they have no specific roles. Too general.
People seem to like the aggressors.
I am skipping them, completely.
Though the new death Guard stuff is very nice.
If I were you and wanted a second army of new stuff I would roll with heretic marines.

Paladins are slightly over 300 pts for 5 so 3 x 5 man squads would be around 950. A dreadknight would be about 200-250 so you would have about 1200 pts.

An all paladin army would be decent, but you would need to really worry about weapons that deal multiple damage. The army would be very glass cannon and either you rock or get rocked.

One of the nicest things I love about 8th edition so far have been the indexes. Being an owner of multiple armies (Salamander custom chapter, space wolves, Eldar, dark Eldar, Imperial guard, emporers children, thosand sons, and tyrnaid) buying the codex for each army is very expensive but with 8th and the indexes 125$ got me rules for all armies. They may not be the latest rules (don't own the chaos codex yet) but they are more than adequate for getting your army up and running especially if it's to a faction you don't play much.

Raven guard in the new codex have some really cool toys that I think go well with primaris marines, if you do get some I would probably suggest making them go with your Raven guard vs making them a different chapter all together. Some chapters like them better than others, but Raven can make good use of them.

Hope you get back into it, 8th has been fun so far.

I am an old-guard player from as far back as 2nd Ed and I got off the ride at 7th Ed. I am now back with a vengeance and very happy.

Ravenguard with Grey Knight support could be cool and effective. Give it a whirl!
