I am saying all this as constructive criticism.

This video is not very good and isnt a lot of help.

1) you should tell us what material you ordered this parts in. Shapeways has a lot of different materials. Some of which behave very different.

2) you should clip one out. Talk about how easy the material is to get off their spru.

3) you should wash one in a dark shade (nuln oil) and show us that so we can better see the details and also any extrusion lines from the 3d printing process.

4) you should glue one onto a shoulder so we can see how it actually fits instead of us just hearing you say "good size".

5) paint one up so we can see the final out come.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Mentioning what it is you're actually reviewing would be helpful, also.

Mentioning what it was in the video would have helped, or at least tell viewers to look under the video and provide the link. I'm thinking it's from this seller https://www.shapeways.com/shops/popbits?section=--+Shoulder&sort=

His stuff only comes in extreme frosted detail afaik, and they look great.

Help me, Rhonda. HA!

I'm surprised that you got a hold of those guys to order something. I've been trying for weeks with no luck.

I've had good luck with popgoesthemonkey.com and my roaring lion shoulder bits. You can see a pic in my thread in this section.

The badges and markings are too thick. Yes, I know they seem super-thin and delicate when on the sprue.

Once you put them on the shoulderpads though, you can see that they are almost as thick as the shoulderpad itself, sticking out over the border and changing the silhouette of the mini. It's especially evident with things like the tactical squad marking (the upward arrow). When you apply the bit, it completely dominates the entire pad, making it look twice as thick and borderline grotesque.

Now if you like the look of "big thick shoulders" that is just fine of course.

I also know that you can't make them any thinner... anything thinner would have to be etched brass I guess. Them's the breaks. I had high hopes for this product but it's back to waterslide decals now I suppose.

Olgerth, there is a solution once they're glued in place on the pad of sanding them down...

Sanding them down doesn't really work. If its something like a Blood Raven icon there's various raised areas. If you try sanding that you'll lose all the detail. On squad markings and Ultramarine icons it may work though, but I haven't tried it.

I bought some of the icons in the video and they are great quality - fit perfectly, tough material that didn't snap, easy to remove sprue inserts... but yeah, they do substantially alter the profile of a Marine and despite the lack of commercial alternatives I'm not sure I want to proceed using them.

EDIT: Just realised you probably meant sanding down from the underside. Brain was not fully-turned-on when I posted this!

I don't think they're too thick at all, but as someone who uses a lot of Blood Angels and Dark Angels Company Veterans pads, I'm used to things protruding.from the pad.Finished this guy a couple of days ago using one of PGTM's icons, profile looks alright to me.

It's a one man band, so that could be part of it. Are you making a custom request? If it's a regular order from the existing catalogue, you don't need to make contact.

Might work with the squad marks, but not so much with badges.

I thought of it too... it would make for a LOT of sanding. As to sanding from the inside, not sure how I'd even do that on a chapter badeg. How does one sand a small concave surface?

Take something with a similar curvature to it and a little rigidity, so the sandpaper has something to conform to the curve, and sand it that way - probably best to work the piece over the sandpaper instead of the other way around.

I'm not looking for custom work. A regular order is what I want. Just a reply would be good.

If it's available on Shapeways, you don't need to talk to anyone. Just place an order. The guy who made the design isn't handling fulfillment of the order anyway, it's all manufactured and shipped by Shapeways.
