It begins!

That's the first stage of the first squad of my Celestial Lions army. And it's the first painting project I've done in a long long time. They're primed in chaos, sorry, abaddon black and then sprayed in retributior gold. I wasn't sure about two coats but I was strongly advised to do so.

I think the next stage is to wash them down in reikland fleshshade, then dry brush the gold back over them. But I can't remember if I'm supposed to do anything else to the gold! I should have written the instructions down.

Almost finished! I'm super nervous showing these here, because the standards are so high.

It's a great start. I too recently restarted in the hobby after a few years off. The only thing I'd recommend is posting a pic or two in each post in the actual thread instead of just imgur links to better engage readers.

Thanks warboss! I would love to post the pics directly in the thread but photobucket had to turn into scumbags and start charging for third party hosting. Do you know of any alternative sites?

Thanks again warboss! I completely forgot we could upload stuff here!

So with that in mind, here they are:

Again, I'm super nervous about posting these here on account of the high standards.

Very nice start - they look great! I hope to do some Lions myself at some stage soon(ish).

They seem to be a popular choice recently; I've always thought they were cool looking and a good idea but I've noticed a definite increase in hobby projects with them as of late. Did they get a focus in the 8th edition fluff?

Don't worry as they look nice. Is there room for improvement? Of course (just like with everything I've ever posted here too!) but there is nothing to be nervous about. Glad I could help and thanks for taking the suggestion in the spirit you did.

Have you thought about any kind of unique basing?

Thank you so much everybody!

@ warboss

I'm not sure myself why they're suddenly gaining popularity. Maybe it's because they're so damn nice? My LGS recently did a campaign featuring them, but in truth I actually discovered them sort of by accident. I was fumbling around looking for a good chapter scheme, and I wondered if the Hammers Of Sigmar storm cast eternal chamber scheme would look good on Primus marines (which it did!) but it was then pointed out to me that such a chapter alreafy existed; the celestial Lions!

What I like most about them is the fact that I can really distinguish the chapter specialists when compared to the rank and file. Blue librarians, white apothecaries, black chaplains and red techmarines will look more special when compared to the golden troops.

At the moment I'd say that the eyes are letting me down. I might have to redo them, but I don't want to become obsessed with them.

So I added the guns!

And here's a close up!

Just the purity seals and bases to go, along with some touching up!

Made some more progress tonight:

I would have had the other two from the squad finished but it had to rain and prevent me from spray painting.

I like the shine on the armour there - did you apply a varnish over it?

Be sure to keep it up

I didn't varnish them no. Do you think I should?

I've got more work done too:

Only 3 interceptors, a captain, 2 lieutenants, an ancient and a Liberian to go! Not counting the stuff I still need to do to these of course.

Sorry, I didn't notice this pop up!

Entirely up to you - the armour does look very shiny all over, so if that's the effect you're going for, great work.

And those new models looks much improved - the gold in particular looks more consistent and smooth. Good work

Thanks for the feedback General.

I broke a pledge to not buy any more models until I had everything painted and brought some models:

Blu tacked at the moment but will glue, cleaned of flash and paint asap.

I should probably start a new thread but here goes nothing. I’ve made further progress with the Lions:

Painted the purity seals, highlighted them in ironbreaker and attached the Shapeways emblem. Once I get some money together I’ll get the tactical arrows for the other shoulder pad.

Now to base them.
