I have not seen anyone locally play the Ironjawz in AoS, and was wondering if they are any good? The only orcs I have seen played around here are the Bonesplitters, and they are fairly entertaining, but I like the looks of the Ironjawz better.

Thanks!

It's kind of up in the air right now because of all the changes coming in GH2017. I think they are mid tier at best under GH2016. After looking over the changes in GH2017 I think they gained more than they lost, and while I haven't played under the new rules they do seem more fun, with more interesting builds available to try out. At the same time they are a low morale, low model count close combat army in a shooting dominated game that just updated their missions to also push horde units (2 missions give essentially objective secured to 20 man or larger units). On the upside you can stay Ironjawz and bring in 400 points (at 2k) in orruks, goblins and the like. So you can grab bodies and/or shooting and still get the new Ironjawz traits and battlelines. Downside is I think many many alliegances can do better on both bodies and/or shooting, and they still aren't out chopping bloodletter bombs and similar close combat buggaboos. I dunno, still some missing pieces like Forgeworld and compendium prices and certainly needs to be played rather than theorycrafted.

Yes. Ironjawz were solid in GHB1 but had trouble in some matchups due to their restrictive unit list for allegiance. GHB2 adds allies, which is exactly what Ironjawz needed.

Thanks for the info guys. I decided to take the plunge into Ironjawz, and picked up the Get Started Ironjawz box, along with the new General's Handbook 2. Is the $40 Ironjawz book still useful now?

NinthMusketeer, you mention the value of having allies in your Ironjawz army, what allies would you recommend?

Thanks!

Yes, you'll want the Ironjawz battletome as well for the battalions (and fluff if you are into that). As for allies, adding in ranged support or cheap wizards is a good idea.

What do people think of getting one of the new Spiderfang Grotz ally boxes to add to an Ironjawz army?

If you want to for fun it isn't going to hold you back and.could get good mileage in casual play, but in a more competitive minded setting you'll find other options to be more powerful.

Well spiderfang aren't allies with ironjawz allegiance so I wouldn't suggest it unless you are ok just getting the grand alliance trait and taking non-Ironjawz battlelines. I think only moonclan and gitmob are allies with spiderfang. Maybe greenskinz, no book handy though to confirm.
