So our dog (see avatar) has got terminal lung cancer; she's got a few weeks (est) left but is basically on borrowed time. So its what we can do to keep her happy until calling the vet the one final time. So a bit of retail therapy time for me (since my other retail therapy of Firestorm Armada has totally crashed and burned today).

So thought I might get myself a really nice dragon model. I've had a look around and there's a few interesting ones that catch the eye, but having never owned nor seen in the flesh and not knowing all things dragon I'd be interested in any other recommendations.

So far I've got my eye on
ARCWORLDE dragons
http://www.warploqueminiatures.com/the-monsters-of-arcworlde
Fire dragon

Arcane dragon - my only worry about this one is it looks VERY fragile without converting a rock or something for the foreleg to give it another bracing point other than its tail.

Reaper Temple Dragon

Sadly a lot of reapers newer dragons are in bones, not a bad material but its not quite as crisp with detail as metal or resin.

Forgeworlds dragon's don't really catch my eye (and I think some of their older castings are near impossible to get). Honestly I think GW central has better looking dragons, but they are not quite what I'm after.

So I'd welcome any other recommendations or suggestions or thoughts. I'd also welcome any other interesting dragon themed ideas as well.

Angrislaug from Mierce.

Bit spendy, but there's 25% off with summer-2017 voucher code this weekend.

Also check out some of their others, this is their truest dragons, but there's wyverns, dragon ogres and other dragons things, mostly under the Brytoniad faction.

Kang The Implacable gets a mention, even if difficult to get hold of..

Thanks to the disaster that was the KS, apparently the models get dumped on eBay with some regularity, although I've not spotted a Pincer Demon yet. Only way I'd buy a CC model as it's the only way I can be sure Jeremy doesn't see any cash for it, YMMV.

My thanks Azreal!

It's a shame that the creaturecaster KS had such problems as the sculpts looked great; although their dragon is more mounted and the back area for the saddle looks a bit odd without it. Sadly those super-sized "diningroom" chair style seats nave never looked right on dragons in my view; far too tall and lacking in any form of aerodynamics

The Mierce one makes me wish more companies would do 3D photos or at LEAST more than one or two product shots. It looks neat but I'll have to hunt around for more angles.

Might help.

I do actually own the Mierce dragon, but unassembled lumps of grey won't really do much to sell it!

Silly as it might sound, have you looked at the Stormcast's Stardrake?
Azrael seems to have things pretty much on lockdown, but I thought I'd throw that suggestion out there. It's a fairly large kit and gorgeous in the flesh. I've long waffled over one myself.

Sorry for your girl Overread. Seems like a h*ckin' good doggo.

I just went through this back in March with my Golden Retriever, who just seemed to have decided it was time for her to move on. She had one last vet visit the day before where they said her Addison's disease was seeming to be kept in check and the next day, she just...moved on.

Wyrd Models has great dragon model called the Shadow Emissary. It is a classic Asian style dragon.

The Stormcast's Stardrake looks great, but in pictures its always looked a bit too angular/square for my liking. It might just be the pose and body armour giving that effect. I do agree that I do like hte new direction of GW dragons and they've really made some very fine looking beasties (I just wish they'd done that without putting space marines on most of them )

Wyrds render only previews isn't always helpful. Here's some completed shots.

Same boat! I keep wanting to get one not for the Stormcast on top, but to put a High Elf or Dark Elf lord on top.

The armor definitely is pretty angular and squared to match the rider. Sorry the suggestion wasn't a big help, but just thought I'd throw it out there since Azrael seemed to have all the other bases covered.

Thanks Loki, that certainly gives it a better impression!

Kanl - no harm done; the more suggestions the better. Heck sometimes just a different photo from a different angle can sell a model to someone who otherwise thought a model meh or didn't like it.

They are hard to find, but a Confrontation Dragon Titan is an amazing model. Cool Mini might still sell it?

Aye I came across Cadwallon as well - from what I can gather its a recaster, but one who appears to have a hand in sculpting up new models for confrontation lines as well.

Must admit I did like the look of a good few of the Confruntation range and was sad to see it go pre-painted and then die off.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

The Confrontation dragon was never available in prepaint.

My choice would be the Heresy dragon. It is big, it is gorgeous, but it is expensive. Heresy are currently selling fixer uppers if you dont mind using a little greenstuff and careful filing.

Alternate;
Buy a big signiture model for a faction you want to play. Dragons are cool retail/build therapy, but so are Mortis Engines and Warhound titans.

60 USD? Even for PVC, that's crazy cheap!

When is this Kickstarter launch? Because I need this dragon for this price for.... uhm, I just need it.

WOW ok now that is an insanely good dragon

are you sure that its $60 and not $600 a 5 m wingspan is nuts; though I wonder at its ability to hold detail if its only $60

Its half a metre not 5! Its an add on for their kickstarter that is coming at that price, no word on retail.

Also worth noting that the minis it is shown with are 15mm.

Lol that's a little bit more sane, but still even half a meter is huge for that price point! Even Reaper Bones would cost way more than that at KS I would think.

is the company behind it any good? That is to say have they ever made models commercially like that before? I've seen a few big model companies on KS and many get big ideas then fall apart when it comes to commerically producing to that quality at that size at the cheap price.

Company name is Mythic Games, game name is Joan of Arc. Beyond that I know nothing, I think they are French and that's it.

Okay apparently they work in conjunction with Monolith who were key to the Conan kickstarter, hear good things about the models.

Addendum, they have released a kickstarter that is apparently either due to deliver or in the middle of; https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/806316071/mythic-battles-pantheon/description

I've played a production copy of Mythic Battles and the minis hold up to the pre-production resins. MB has a lot of big PVC models, albeit nothing to the size of this dragon. That said, they did do a boxed add-on for MB that had four very large minis in it for less than the price of the dragon.

That is awesome and I'd love to see several of those heads on their own single headed dragon too - fantastic details and sculpt! but at $2K! That's a very pricey dragon and limited to only 15! That's going to be one collectors dream and centre stage!

Way beyond my budget this year but that is a wonderful model and really hope some can pick one up!

Also its rather sad to me to read in the KS about a rise in recasters targeting smaller companies as well. We tend to think of it as something that only affects the big GW, but smaller studios are at even more risk to recasters.

I have a pretty BA stone dragon at home. To be honest he looks better than most of these. The cost? 1 dollar at a yard sale. If you spend 2k on a dragon miniature - you are wasting a fair bit of money. Best looking dragon ITT though is the red temple dragon posted by the OP.
