Colorado Springs

Since we can't make it to NOVA proper and we wanted to try out the missions, Steven and I decided to have our own tourney between the two of us. We will be running through the four missions outlined at the bottom of the NOVA Open GT Primer listed HERE. We will use the same lists for all four rounds. Terrain will be switched up after the first two rounds.

Rounds 1 and 2 were a couple weeks ago, so I apologize for any holes in my memory.

Round 1, 'ere we go!

You can't see it here but there is an objective right in front of the ruins the Stormboyz are standing on/in

Initial Thoughts

Orks: Not too worried about the objectives on my side, but I have to get over to his side in a hurry before all those guns tear me up. Pretty typical Ork smash and grab.
Marines: DAKKADAKKADAKKA



Turn 1 Marines
Spoiler:

Movement:
Black Razorback unloads (into the house on the bottom right corner), Blue Razor and Capt move up as well


Both flyers also come up


Shooting: Stormraven kills 11 Boyz in the back corner, Stormtalon shoots down 7 Stormboyz, Ven Dread kills 4 more, both TFCs kill 10 between. Both Razorbacks only manage to kill 5 Boyz, while the lone PC Tactical kills 3. LSS kills 2 Boyz also.

No Charge/Fight/Morale, Zagstruk lets the Stormboyz (all 9 of them) autopass morale



Turn 1 Orks
Spoiler:

Movement:
Boyz and Zag movin' on up. Nobs decide to those gits get shot up first and stay put.


The ragged remains of Stormboy squad 1 hug the wall, out of sight of the Talon, Zhad follows them, but Biker Boss decides to strike out on his own.


Corner Boyz and Weirdboy shuffle up into Smite range


One Kommando squad comes in off the back corner, behind the TFC in the short tower. The other comes in behind the L Building in the other corner.

Psychic: Rocker Weirdboy Smites the Stormraven for 3W, the other Weirdboy Jumps the full strength Stormboyz behind the Stormraven (Sorry no pic, look at the last picture and replace that brick of blue dice with a brick of Stormboyz)

Shooting: The Jumped Stormboyz put one wound on the TFC, Corner Boyz manage 1W on the Stormraven.

Lootas roll hot and crack open the blue Razorback, Boyz will kill one of the Tacts that come out.


Charge:
Zaggy goes for the Captain and Tacticals. OW whiffs


Biker Boss makes it to the other blue Razorback


Boyz charge the black Razorback, Orks use 1CP to reroll one charge die. 1 boy dies to OW, putting the mob under 20.


Stormboyz make the charge on the Stormraven off 'Ere We Go.


Zhad is just short of charge range so he stays put.

Fight:
Zag puts all his attacks on the Bike Captain, dropping him and giving Orks SLAY THE WARLORD, this also takes the Marines First Blood secondary off the table.
Bike Boss puts 2W on the blue Razorback, Orks use 1CP to reroll a wound roll
Boyz smack the crap out of the black Razorback, which proceeds to make 10 saves!
Stormboyz only manage 2W on the Stormraven, which kills a Stormboy in return.
Kommandos kill off the techmarine.

Turn 2 Marines

Movement:
The blue Back unloads then falls back from Bike Boss, Marked LT climbs up the tower to party with the Kommandos


Raven falls back (By going forward), the Talon and LSS come down from their perches.




Black Razor also falls back

Shooting: The Techmarine, Woods LT, Tactical squad, and Ven Dread are all needed to drop the Biker Boss. Marked LT shoots up two Kommadoes.
Tacticals in the house shoot 4 Boyz that are chasing after the black Razorback. The Stormraven splits fire, killing the Rocker Weirdboy and 6 of their Grot roadies. The Talon kills 7 Stormboyz from the heavily depleted squad leaving 2

Charge/Fight: Tower LT charges the remaining Kommandos, killing 1 and putting a wound on the Nob, he takes 2W in return. Zag kills 3 Tacts, leaving just the Sergeant.

Morale: A Clubhouse Kommando gets scared and runs off leaving the wounded Nob alone, as do the Grots giving Marines CULL THE HORDE. Orks use 2CP so the 2 man SB squad autopasses morale. The Tactical Sgt runs from Zag's horrible feet.



Turn 2 Orks
Spoiler:

Movement:

Boyz go after the black Razor, Zag goes after the LSS and Objective, Kommandos go after the other objective. Other Weirdboy and Grots move into the ruins and cover their objective.


Stormboyz advance and chase after the Raven, the Storm duo jumps out to go after the Tacts on the objective, corner Boyz move up towards the objective, Zhad heads for the gits in the woods.


Psychic: Nobs Jump to the back corner.


Shooting: Boys and Kommandos shoot up the Tact squad, but they make saves. Lootas put 6W on the Stormtalon, Orks use 1CP to reroll a wound roll. Grots actually manage to score 2 wounds on the Raven, but it makes the saves.

Charge: The Stormboy duo charges the Tactical squad, becoming the Stormboy uno in the process. The big Stormboy squad charge the Raven again, losing 1 to OW and 7 to youthful exuberance. Zhad charges the Ven Dread. Nobs attempt to charge the blue Razor, but trip over their runts and squish 3 of them. Kommandos charge the (not in the) House Tacticals.

Fight: Kommandos kill 3 Tacticals, Zhad puts 6w on Ven Dread, Stormboyz put 5w on the Raven, Stormboy Uno whiffs horribly, Clubhouse Kommando puts 1W on the Marked LT before dying. Zaggy crushes the LSS

Morale: I have 1 Kommando running here, but I don't remember when they got hurt and how many are left (I think 2), sorry.

Turn 3 Marines

Spoiler:

There's not quite enough room for the Ironclad to leave the Raven, so he gets put back to sleep. The Raven decides to go party elsewhere.


While his baby brother comes around to pick up his leftovers.


Ven Dread falls back from Zhad and Blue Back moves away from the Nobs


Shooting: Woods LT and the Techmarine put 2W on Zhad. Scouts put 2W on Zaggy. Raven kills 5 Lootas

The Talon and TFC shoot up 15 Stormboyz


Charge: Woods LT and Techmarine charge Zhad, but only LT makes it.

Fight: LT whiffs on Zhad, who snips his head off and consolidates into the Techmarine.

Boyz finish off the Black Razorback and head toward Ven Dread behind the house.


Zag kills 3 Scouts.

Morale:
4 Lootas run


Orks use 2CP for the Stormboyz to autopass





Turn 3 Orks
Spoiler:

Movement:
Nobs advance. So many choices.


Boyz hop around the corner


Stormboyz chase after the other flying thing.


Psychic: Smite the Raven for 1W

Shooting: Boyz shoot up Ven Dread but good, killing him. Corner Boyz kill 1 Tactical, Nobs whiff on LT.

5 Hits, 3 wounds, 3 failed saves. Grots shoot down the Stormraven and a million mathhammerer's heads explode

Charge:

Stormboyz charge Talon, losing 3 to OW, they would put 2W on the Talon later. Boyz in the background had charged the Tacticals, losing 3 to OW and wiping the marines.


Boyz near the house fail to charge the blue Razorback, OW whiffs. Nobz charge Marked LT.

Fight: After Boyz kill the Tacticals, Marines use 2CP to Interrupt. Tacticals try to finish off the Kommandos but end up trading 1 for 1, leaving the Kommando Nob.

Nobz manhandle the LT giving Orks MARKED FOR DEATH. They consolidate into the TFC, but Zhad kills of the Techmarine.


Scouts put 1W on Zaggy and he finishes the squad.




Turn 4 Marines
Spoiler:

Marines have very little left on the board at this point. Talon and Razorback both go for the Nob squad, downing 7 Ammo Runts and 2 Nobs. In Fighting the Tactical Sgt finishes off the Kommando Nob.



Turn 4 Orks
Spoiler:

House Boyz round the corner and shoot the Tact Sgt off the objective. Zhad charges and finishes the Razorback, leaving the Stormtalon to fly away.









Turn 5 Marines
Spoiler:

Per the NOVA rules, the game technically keeps going through at least Turn 5, even if one side is tabled. Orks move on to objectives and game ends after 5.

Afterword

Orks: Had to pull a lot of charge rolls out of my ass, but that went better than expected. Everybody did their job well. Was my first time using Zagstruk and I was pleasantly surprised. 5+ FNP helped more than I expected. Zhadsnark is so damn fast, durable, and killy.

Marines: I got overconfident in my guns, there was really no reason to put my Razorbacks out there so soon, should have just let the fliers do the heavy lifting early on since he doesn't have much that can deal with them (though I wasn't expecting teleporting Stormboyz). It was really scary to see how much ground that biker character can cover in one turn, really hard to plan around.
