A group calling themselves Wood Robot has a kickstarter for a new gaming table. The table comes in either 3x5 or 4x6 and is designed to be somewhat modular and durable.

This isn't cheap but then for those of us who dropped $1000 or more on Poots' stuff it shouldn't be an issue, either.

Looks like a great table for board gaming, but it's unusable for Warhammer 40,000 and AoS.

The GW RoBG's will not fit into it as it's not a true 6x4 playing area. I assume game mats will also not fit.

So unfortunate; I absolutely would have backed this.

100% confirmed. We adjusted it a bit. They fit

Not seeing that anywhere. I do however see...

"Table size adjustment - Smaller "3x5" tables gets a little more space, larger "4x6" tables remain the same."

They need to update their dimensional drawing and make it more accurate or post a picture of a RoBG in one. Need something concrete.

From their KS faq:
The playing surface is 72 inches (1828mm) X 47.85 inches (1215mm)

I'd need to see a RoB set in the playing surface and a video of how they get the tiles out.

I nearly got the wife to agree on a 6x4 table for the dining room. Unfortunately she is very unhappy that the covers aren't spill proof.

Too easy.

Yeah you can also get table pads that go under regular table cloths.. I remember my mom always had one on top of our dining room table. You can get them custom made to fit whatever table size you want, I've also seen them where they roll up like a ginormous mouse mat.

Yeah, I raised that point as well. But in her opionion a pretty table doesn't make much sense if you hide it beneath a cloth.

But honestly, that's the fate of all pretty and expensive tables. My parents dinner table costed several thousand and my mom always covers it with at least 2 cloths to protect it...

Fits Realm of Battle boards - question has been asked several times on FB and the KS already.

So what pledge level are you backing at? 4x6 like me? You getting the coasters too? I definitely am.

FYI it appears that the two gents in charge of Wood Robot either own or owned significant portions of Mattel. They've also worked with other major companies for product design (Disney, Marvel, Pixar, Universal, NASCAR, and more) They also own the factory that will actually be manufacturing the tables.

I see it now. There have been a couple questions/comments regarding this that the Creator has responded to. Looks like the RoBG should fit. It would still be great to have something a little more concrete.

Hah, I think they saw this post!

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/972632882/table-of-ultimate-gaming-the-ultimate-game-table-s/posts/1979835?ref=backer_project_update

LET IT BE KNOWN: The 4'x6' Table of Ultimate Gaming easily fits a full 4'x6' of battle tiles or boards

THEY FIT! With room to spare

The 4'x6' Table of Ultimate Gaming easily fits a full 4'X6' of battle tiles or boards. The boards like Citadel 2'X2' and other terrain will fit inside the play surface with room to spare. The limit is the inside rim that holds the optional tops. You have 72.4"X48.43"(1839mmx1230mm) clear space for any tiles or terrain inside that rim. Those support rails for the tops also have space under them. So for flat maps you actually have a full 74"X50" (1881mmx1272mm) of room as a flat map can extend under the rail a bit. Also the overall dimensions are shown including the surrounding rail apron.

How about.. a 4x4 version, that you can pull / slide open to fit a 2' wide leaf to extend it to 4x6.. or 2 leaves (or leafs?) to make it 4x8?

Well they have plans for a 2x4 that can be combined to any of the other tables incrementally. Or to it's self to make a 4x4.

Not that I don't think they look nice (they really do) - but I am a bit surprised they've gotten nearly 800 people to pledge for buying a table already.

Well, unless you know where to buy those old wooden tables the GW Battle Bunkers used to have, this is as good as it gets for under $1000 and it's a hell of a lot better than some of the crappy stuff seen in other kickstarters.

The default option is no decoration at all in that space. The decorations are magnetized to be easily swappable, and every purchase comes with "blank" plates to put on it for a clean look. Additional ones cost extra.

A normal quality dining table cost around the same. I was at a store with the wife and the one we liked was 900 euros. And they had also much more expensive tables.
Sure you can get a nice Ikea table for 200, but they use very soft wood so they scratch easily.

The problem is I need a 6x4 for 40k but that might be a bit broad for our available space. It would be better if the trims on the side would be slimmer

The rails look like they're only 4" total. So I believe it extends out only 4" from the edge of the table frame. That'd be 6'8" x 4'8" overall, or pretty close to that.

Well, in for a penny in for a pound. One grand gets me a 6'x4' table with all the options. Let's just hope we hit the next stretch goal so I can order the steampunk panels, otherwise I'll have to settle for Celtic.

Added the funding chart from Kicktrax.com to the first post. Looks like this may actually break $1,000,000.00.

The table is fantastic looking - I really like it.

Timing-wise, this isn't going to work out for me though...

I hear ya, but this is the closest I've seen to those old wood tables GW used to have in their battle bunkers and I expect retail price to be a LOT higher - possibly as much as 50% - 70% higher.

Update #33 is up. These are definitely luxury panels and cost a bit more than the normal ones. Still, this is a hobby where you dump thousands into plastic toys...

Steampunk Decoration Update - Multi-Layer Multi-Dimensional

Thanks to all of you we made it! The 850K stretch goal details "Steampunk Decoration Pack" are below. We have advanced into multi-dimensional multi-layer decoration for the Steampunk decoration. The results are stunning. To add this 18 piece set as a decoration choice, you can add it to your current table (if you chose a table with decoration) with deco pledge for an additional $100. Alternatively, you can buy it separately in the post-campaign survey we send you for $199.

So if you have a pledge for a table with decoration package included then please note that all of the current designs (except Steampunk) are included in the prices. However, if you choose the Steampunk Multi-Dimensional package it is an additional $100. Just add that amount to your current or future pledge and select the Steampunk option (later in a few weeks) in the post campaign survey we send you.

The latest update is for The Big Pad

We have revised the prototype for the Big Pad a few times for a variety of reasons and now we are close to final. One for each player will really make for a nice organizational tool. Mounts securely to the rail system. Compatible with all tables sizes, 2.4, 3.5 and 4.6.

I doubt they will do something like that since they already have an extension, which is basically 4x4 table + 2x4 table together. So it looks like basically get 2 tables and combine or separate them.

Above is a 4x6 table with a 2x4 table combined on the end.

Edit: I will say though if they did a 4x6 table that did extend to a 6x6 I would back. I have thought about backing multiple times but I need a 6x6 table but don't have room (full time, taking it out and using it and putting it away is fine) for it full time. I did debate doing a 4x6 and 2x4 but don't have room for the other 2x4 that makes it easy to move them together (ie: room upstairs in the game room but no room downstairs in the living room with the 4x6). That means trying to come up with something or source locally or work with someone with some woodworking skills locally.

The design doesn't facilitate extensions. They chose the dimensions they had mostly because of what the community used.

FYI, they hit the $1,000,000 mark last night. They're not offering everyone the moon as stretch goals because they want to make every possible effort to meet their anticipated shipping dates. If they do, this will be one of the shortest waits I've had backing a project.
