Hi guys!

Since Ironjawz got some love in the new GHB (and what looks like some awesome new models come November and Shadespire), I would like to start a thread dedicated to the Ironjawz- tactics, list building, painting and so on.

So Ironjawz in GHB2, what’cha thinking?

I personally am very excited about the changes; Ard boys getting horde number discount, gore grunters got a much needed point decrease and so did both megaboss on krusha and gordrakk. At the same time we got some cool new command traits and artefacts, my favorites so far being “prophet of the waaagh” to increase the chance of even more attacks and either “destroyer” going on a mawkrushas fists or the “metal ripper’s klaw” going on one of his own weapons for some extra rending.
Our formations got a big point increase, which I think was fair enough for the ironfist formation, but maybe a little too much, but all in all I am very pleaced with the update.

Cheers!

Ironfist isn't auto-take anymore but still a strong option. Bigger units of Ironjawz can now be more desirable due to how destruction allegiance works now.

Can't have destroyer on the mawkrusha, just the rider.
That said, I'm loving the Ironjawz right now. I can run two units of 3 gruntas and a few units of Ard Boyz and can do pretty well.
I'm still a fan of the Weirdfist just to get some ranged attacks down the table.
I want to love the Brutes, but It's so hard to fit them in and keep them going forward when I have to choose between them or a krusha.

One unit of brutes is auto-take IMO because of re-rolling all hits against anything with a wounds characteristic 4+. We'll see how hard the horde meta hits, but I don't think it will be so bad as to offset that.

Even against hordes they could still do well if supported by a Megaboss. 5 attacks per model and hitting on 2+/3+ should thin up a few ranks.

Brutes arent bad vs hordes, its just that gruntaz are generally better.

Sure you, og says "pick one melee weapon on this model." I agree it makes more sence on the boss, but the wording works in favour for the whole model.

Does anyone know anything about the new shadespire unit?

Sadly, yes, I'm sure. It says upgrades on the general only, not mounts.

Just before allegiance there's a general rule saying upgrades like that only affect the rider, not the mount.

Aye, though in my opinion the Ironjawz have gained some powerful tools with their own alleigance relics. A riptooth fist with rending -3 is a scary prospect, same as a damge 3 boss chopa.

I stand corrected..
Still some great items though.
I was thinking about going for the ironclad trait on a maw-krusha with daubing of mork to give him some D#.. lowering incomming rend and a 6++ save, might be more usefull since he is all ready super killy

My personal pick is the Inspiring Presence on d3 units. Morale is our enemy on large units, so that ability is gold for me.
As for the Artifacts, I like the -1 Rend one and the 6+ "ward save" one.
I'm still not sure which Battalions I like though. Ironfist is good and I like Weirdfist a lot too. Hard to decide between them. The 2nd one in the GHB17 is pretty nifty as well if you have the points for it.

What do you guys think of this list?

Megaboss on mawkrusha (Ironclad and destroyer)
Wierdnob (daubing of mork)
30 ard boys
10 ard boys
3 gore gruntas
3 gore gruntas
3 gore gruntas
3 gore gruntas
Gorefist formation
1990 points and 160 wounds.
Gore gruntas and megaboss go full speed ahead with high chances of getting turn 1 charges. The ard boys move up to claim objectives, while giving the wierdnob bonus to cast and unbind. What do you think, I really feel like gore gruntas are a great unit now with the GHB2

It's tanky, but anything that can deploy in later turns will just avoid you as the Gruntas will probably be locked in combat a lot and aren't real killy. Also, not very much of a buff for your Weirdnob, so I'd probably drop him for a Warchanter.

The Wierdnob can camp behind the arboyz for bonuses to casting, so I suspect thats why he went with it. Also mystic shield on the megaboss.

I think its a strong list, I would only have three of the gruntaz go forward though and have one as a flank guard/outflanker.

Yes, this exactly. Hopefully I will be able to get one or two foot of gork of a game, the rest of the time he will provide a "guaranteed" mystic shield for the megaboss.
Keeping a flanking unit sounds like a pretty good idea. thanks !

After having played my first match since the new GHB's hit I think we've gotten stronger with the new edition. Rampagin destroyer's nerf has been a light one since it's traded widespread and reliability for more powerful results. In addition, +1'' to charge and screwing over combat turn sequence is mighty good. Special traits and several relics are good. Sure, Battlebrew was great but we've won ironclad/prophet of the WAAAGH! and the re-rolls 1s to wound trait while getting the chance for a rend -2 choppa or the `+1/-1 bravery item to amplify the damage done during the combat phase.

Sounds great. What was your list?

My list was a bit of a variation of my old one: Ironfist with 2 ardboyz and 1 brute. 2 warchanters and one megaboss. The megaboss had ironclad and the -1 rend weapon to boost his choppa. and one of the warchanters had the banner messing morale.

My next attempt will be to up it to 2k points and my plan is to add the ironsunz. Me thinks that it can be pretty strong, but will try.

From what I've seen, every time a player has gone after foot of gork for a game... They would have done more damage just casting arcane bolt every turn.

What is peoples take on Gordrak in the new edition? Is he more viable now, or still to expesive?
I was thinking of putting him in a list with a block of 30 ard boys and 4x3 gore gruntas with gorefist formation, and then use his command ability turn one, to buff the entire gorefist formation. Do you think that could work?

I think he's more viable in this edition. I usually built a list around him and gruntas and a gorefist. Before I could get 5 gruntas (usually a mob of 9 and two MSUs) and a trio of warchanters. Now I can get in 3 6-boy mobs of gruntas and 4 warchanters in addition of the batallion!

Sounds like you have some experience with this type of list? How is it working out for you?

It's fun and nasty, specially the first time your opponent plays against it.
