Subject: High-end Model Kits (or, what's your most expensive model?)
I'm wondering, what is the most expensive model you've purchased. I'm not limiting this to gaming models, just something that came in a kit that you glue together and paint. My most expensive so far is the Forge World Phantom Titan which I've yet to finish, mostly because I haven't gotten around to making the damned base for it. Other than that, it's mostly been GW stuff or the occasional cool mech-like model from some Japanese company.
Then this came along.
It's currently priced at $400.00 US and seems to be a much better deal than a Forge World Thunderhawk given how problematic FW's large models are.
What do you guys think about this? Is it worth it in your eyes? What high-end models have you purchased?

Besides my Ta'unar and Warhounds I havent bought any big expensive kits to date, and they were additions to larger and more expensive armies so when viewed as parts of a whole the price tag on the models did not seem that excessive.
I have however spent about a hundred pound on total parts for conversions for infantry sized models in the past, because in order to match up to my vision specific parts are usually needed,

Bandai kits are very tightly engineered with excellent tolerances. This kit will make you weep with joy at how well it fits together, especially after the ill-fitting joys of working with Forgeworld.

Stretching the specification a lot, Lego Creator kits. No glue or paint, but equally complex I would argue. £260 top price so far. Haven't spent anywhere near that on a single wargaming model - £45 tops? necron monolith years ago...

I'd say that of everything I own, other than maybe full resin Baneblade and Stormblade, the most expensive thing I own is the set of Skullz Adeptus Mechanicus guys:

I've build quite a few Bandai Star Wars models and they've all been fantastic. I can almost guarantee that this kit will go together perfectly.
I would consider buying this if I didn't already have the Fine Molds kit in the same scale that I paid $230 for about five years ago. I really can't justify spending $400 on a kit that I probably won't build anytime in the foreseeable future. I have a couple of other rather pricey models: 1/9 scale XO Kane from Alien, which went for $120 when it first came out two years ago. I also recently paid about $150 for a Fine Molds 1/72 Slave I that's been out of print for a number of years (Fine Molds lost the Star Wars license to Bandai). I bought one in 2014 for $80, which was close to its original retail price, but a friend of mine had been begging to buy it from me after I build and light it so I told him I'd do one for him if he reimbursed me for the current asking price (plus my normal rate, of course), which he did (it's pretty hard to find this kit for less that $200 now).
If I were to dig around my model stash, I'm sure I would find some for kits I probably paid way too much for.

I bought Imperial Knights: Renegade when that box set was a thing. It was $160 on eBay, which was a steal for two Imperial Knights. Other than that, the only large expensive models I own are a Tau Stormsurge ($150) and a Bloodthirster ($110 or so), and both of those are painted!
My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000

Two Imperial Knights, a Baneblade, and a Stormlord would be the biggest and most expensive single kits I have assembled and painted. I do have an old Armor Cast Reaver Titan that I bought off of a friend that I have not done anything with since getting it, but it's in my collection.
Outside of GW, I have a Ma'al Drakar model from Reaper Miniatures that I have yet to assemble. That thing is larger than a Knight Titan, but much easier to assemble, and still really cool!

Amateurs. Mine is my 1/1 scale, fully functional, professionally assembled by GM, 2012 Chevy Cruze.
Ok, ok, probably my Baneblade is the most expensive single model I have. Or maybe my Spartan, I'd have to double-check the price to be sure.

My most expensive individual kit is probably the MG Nu Gundam (Ver. Ka)
Though I do have a waterline battleship of some sort I bought for Star Wars Armada bits purposes that I never ended up using.
And a ludicrously expensive decal sheet that had livery and designations from some actual Australian unit (I guess its expensive to license that gak?) I intended to use for battletech.
I do intend to build that gundam some day, but the other two were a total wash. I wonder if I can use the battleship parts as components on the Sisters vehicles I'm making? Hm...
With fluctuating exchange rates over the years of € -> £ its hard to say but its between Garg Squiggoth, Heirophant or Revenant Titan for me.
CBA retroactively figuring it out

Well, when you do finally assemble it, it can fight my 1/100 Neo-Zeon MSN-04 Sazabi (Ver. Ka) and we can recreate the battle of Axis I think it was around 160$ Canadian.
My most expensive kit to date though other then FW stuff is the 1/100 MSA-0011 (ext) ExS- Gundam ( Alice) from the manga Gundam Sentinel I think it was about 260$ish Canadian about 10-12 years ago.
For ForgeWorld it's the Warhound titan with twin Turbo Lasers, altho I am eyeing up either a Reaver or a Ordinatus.

Given its history in-universe, I'm of a mind to paint it up glossy and nice and have it be a 'museum replica' of a historically significant but politically undercut vehicle, like the Avro CF-105.

Worth every penny!
I think I paid $70 for an Archaeon on Foot metal mini
Those are a holy grail right there. It says something when a recaster was selling what you have there in metal for $200

Congrats on your purchase. I was looking at buying one myself, but the price tag keeps me from pulling the trigger. Settled on a Zvedza imperial destroyer instead for the time being. One recommendation I would make, wait a few months until an aftermarket lighting kit gets released by a third party before you start the assembly.
Help me, Rhonda. HA!

"Less than you" is the most expensive models I've bought.
This single most expensive piece of terrain was my Realm of Battle Board, which was IIRC like $250ish during a Warstore sale. Money well spent for something that has spent 90% of it's life stacked up laying against a wall.
The single most expensive larger model was a pair of Warhounds, which I got secondhand for $200 apiece. Money well spent for kits that have not yet left the boxes they arrived in.
The most expensive single character I've gotten is the new Gabriel Angelos, which was $50. It arrived damaged and the replacement arrived yesterday so I don't yet need an excuse for why I haven't touched it.
I tend to make firearms my big impulse buys.
