So, I'm working towards a trade to get a little more into Infinity (I played Ice Storm, and then got distracted so am not familiar enough with the game to recognize a stat line that makes sense) so am deferring to the judgement of people who aren't complete newbs.

I've got the below options available to me. I like the aesthetics/theme, but have very little idea what makes a reasonable list. I'd lean towards the Axra'il since I like the TAG aesthetic, but that's about all. Also, I know there are themed sub-armies, I'm not sure if it's wise to start there, or if the below would make that possible if it is.

Basically, I have around $150 to play with for the trade, and am wondering what I should prioritize. Thoughts?

Special Deterrance group Azra'il APHMG
Operation Red Veil Haqqislam starter set
Mercs KTS Kaplan Tactical Service unit
Mercs KTS Kaplan Tactical Service (w spitfire)
Ghulam infantry unit
Qapu khalqi sectoral starter
Yuan yuan older version
Al hawwa sniper
Druze shock team with hacking device (promo female)

The Azra'il AP HMG is a cheap big gun. His gun is scary as feth, and he can sit in suppressive fire making sure people just don't want to go there, or he can move about slowly tearing enemies apart with it.

The Red Veil side of Haqqislam is fantastic. Ghulam are great line infantry. The Zhayedan Breaker Rifle punches waaaay above his weight. The Khawarij rifle is tricky to use but can get some good angles thanks to superjump. The Al Fasid is a great toolbox HI (and very similar in design to the Azra'il if aesthetics are a selling point). The only real problem model is the Tuareg Sniper, but it's not really bad, just a bit expensive.

Kaplan Tactical Services are a great linked team and offer some nice profiles to generic Haqqislam. However, unless you're playing Qapu Khalki, you can only use 2 in a game.

Ghulam Infantry - I assume this is the new box with the special weapons? This is a good add to the Red Veil starter. If gives you some cheap special weapons and a cheap hacker.

Qapu Khalki starter. Honestly wait for a resculpted box. This is an old set, the models haven't aged well compared to the new stuff coming out and the box composition is weird (it was only ever done to reduce SKUs, it wasn't a purpose made starter).

Old Yuan Yuan - if you like the Aesthetic, get the Fat Yuan Yuans. There's lots around either through eBay or stores that overstocked them. Either way, again only useful if you're playing Qapu Khalki.

Al Hawwa sniper. Eh.... as much as I love the sculpt (it made me start the game afterall) there's better snipers. Al Hawwa are better as hackers or Forward Observers, which you get in the starter.

Druze, there's a new box coming in December to fit the updated LE Killer Hackers design. If you feel you could offload the old Druze and keep the Killer Hacker for the updated box, this might be an option. Once again, only really a choice if you're playing Qapu Khalki for the same reason as Kaplan.

Overall, my personal suggestion would be the Red Veil starter, Ghulam box and the Azra'il. It gets you a really good starter force with some good cheerleader options and some good hitters. Additionally they're all brand new sculpts that won't get redone for a long time.

The other direction is all of the Qapu Khalki stuff - starter, Kaplan, Druze, Yuan Yuan, Al Hawwa. This is a nice set of stuff, but IMO incomplete for Qapu Khalki to shine. You want doubles of models for Hafza to Holoproject as, you'll want Sekban or Odalisques for a Haris, and really all the models are old and likely to get resculpted.

Wow, that's a lot to think over. Thanks!

I've got the Icestorm starter that comes with basic aguacils(sp?) and would plan to eventually get the other crossover pieces-- would that influence your suggestion on the Qapu Khalki direction?

Well, Qapu Khalki are a great sectorial. They lost their uniqueness when HSN3 handed Haris to everyone else, but they still get some awesome Haris options. It's just that you'll want to buy a bit more than what you listed to get the most out of the sectorial.

On top of what you listed, I'd be after some combination of the Odalisque box, the Sekban box and Sekban HRL blister and/or the Jannisary box and HMG blister (and trying to find some way to get the old AP Rifle to complete the link).

QK lacks 'tricks' aside from Hafza link filling. Their strength is the massive variety of Core and Haris links they can field.

However, like I said, I'd honestly wait for this stuff to be resculpted. Most of it didn't age well at all. But I'm big on aesthetics, and the new Haqqislam aesthetics are just gorgeous.

If you go that direction I'd recommend trying to get the Haqqislam side of Beyond Red Veil. You get Tarik Mansuri with a Spitfire (basically a bigger, faster, stronger, better Khawarij), a Hassassin Fiday (impersonates and enemy to alpha strike them) and a Hassassin Ragik (aerial deployed boarding shotgun). It's purpose built to take Red Veil to 300pts, but it's three models that will very nicely compliment that list of stuff. It will also give you a nice mix of stuff to see what you like for further expanding. I find starting with a sectorial limiting because you're immediately cutting over half of what the faction has to offer.

Thanks, I ended up going with these, and you're right about the Qapu Khalki starter feeling pretty dated, IDK if I'll use them until seeing the new versions.

I'm looking at the below, and would certainly appreciate any thoughts on what would nicely fill out the above collection. There's a pretty good chance I'll grab the Beyond Red Veil set down the line, but for now, I expect this to be most of my Haqq stuff for a while. The collection is moving faster than my knowledge of the game, but my group feels like it will mostly be playing casually for at least some time, so I'm mostly looking for which of the below are nice options to have.

Asawira with AP rifle
janiisary with AP rifle
Fiday With AP rifle
Lasiq with viral rifle
1x druze grenade launcher
1x limited ed druze
3x sekban
4x djanbazan
aswairas spitfire
2x chicken walker bots
1x baird hacker
1x fiday shotgun
1x farzan shotgun

Lasiq with Viral rifle is a good choice for vanilla. Those are the new Djanbazans? They work well in QK armies. The Barid hacker is also nice in Vanilla. The LE druze would be useful as is, and as a proxy.

Janissary and Asawira will get re-sculpted soon, or later. They are undersized for Heavy Infantry units these days. Chicken Bots are a matter of taste. They are useful in game, but I dislike the look of them ( I proxy Dronbats for them when I need to.) If you plan on getting the beyond red veil, skip the fiday minis. You really only need one.

Thanks. I don't know the game well enough that the army builder really means anything useful to me, and that's nice to know which are due for a resculpt.

It's only the Janissary with the AP rifle that will (eventually) get a resculpt. The other Janissary minis have already been re-sculpted.
