Mission
NOVA Relic/Hammer & Anvil

Orks choose Primary Mission 1 (Get points at end of game)
Secondaries: Linebreaker, Slay the Warlord, Shoot the Big Ones

Marines choose Primary 2 (scoure points Turns 2-6)
Secondaries: Linebreaker, Cull the Hordes, Big Game Hunter

Decided to put the Lootas forward this game instead of on the edge as a distraction. I need Stormboy bodies more for this mission, so hopefully they'll draw more early shots.



The Relic, which almost no army in 40k would actually fight over.





Initial Thoughts

Orks:
Really just a game of keep-away. Getting the relic isn't an issue, having enough models left standing to hold on to it will be. If things start to go south, killing his few infantry models is another option.

SM:
Yeah, there's no way I have a chance of touching the relic until the last turn. I'm sure his stormboyz will grab it, but my planes are faster and they have lots of guns. So keep shooting him off the relic and try to swoop in and snatch it at the last minute.



Marines win roll and choose to go first, Orks fail to seize.

Turn 1 Marines

Movement:
Come and get it!


Talon goes for the woods.


Shooting:
Both TFCs and the LSS shoot up the grots in the woods, trying to expose the HQs in the open, but are only able to kill 7. The near Razorback is needed to finish them.

The Stormraven goes for the Lootas instead of the Stormboyz, wiping them out handily. This leaves the Stormtalon free to shoot the Biker Boss, putting 5 wounds on him.

"Only you can prevent forest fires"


The Ven Dread and center Razorback drop 14 Stormboyz between them.


The plasma cannon on the tower objective pops 2 ammo runts from the Nobz squad.

No Charge/Fighting, Stormboyz are near Zagstruk and auto-pass morale.



Turn 1 Orks
Spoiler:

Movement:
Nobs hustle into the woods, while Bike Boss heads up to get that pesky Razorback.


Zaggy goes and nabs the relic with his boyz around him.


Full SB squad advances, Orks use 1CP to reroll the advance move, going from a 1 to a 2


One Kommando squad comes in off the back corner


Psychic:
Boyz jump to the back corner, hoping to draw some pressure off the Stormboyz.


Weirdboy near the woods Smites the Stormtalon for 1W.

Shoot:
Stormboyz put 1W on the center Razorback, Jumped Boyz put 1W on the TFC. Whoopee.

Charge:
Stormboyz charge the Razorback, 5 crashing along the way. Biker Boss (in background) charges his Razorback. Zhad will charge the Ironclad, taking 2W on Overwatch


Jump Boyz charge the TFC and Lieutenant on the bottom floor, 1 dies to OW


Kommandos fail their charge, losing 1 to OW.

Fight:
Zhadsnark crushes the Dreadnought, while the Stormboyz put 8W on the Razorback, leaving it with 1.


Bike Boss puts 3W on his Razorback. Jump Boyz split attacks killing the TFC, but the Lieutenant makes his saves.

Turn 2 Marines

Movement:
Tac Squad hops out of the almost gone Razorback, but the Razor does not have enough movement to clear the Stormboyz and fall back. Techmarine and LT move out of the ruins to the Objective.


The other blue Razorback unloads and falls back from Bike Boss


Both planes head forward.

Shooting:
Tacs put down the Kommandos, the other Tac squad would finish off Bike Boss


Stormraven splits fire between the Grots hiding behind the tower and the center Stormboy squad. 7 Grots and 5 SB die


The remaining TFC and Ven Dread kill 10 more SB, leaving only the Nob. Center Tacs try to finish him but only manage 1W.

Captain, Lieutenant and Tech Marine manage 8 Jump Boyz between them.


Razorback (Fallen back again, doh. ), Land Speeder Storm, and Stormtalon kill 8 Ammo Runts, but the Nobz are intact.
Space Marines earn CULL THE HORDES

Charge:
Bike Captain charges Jump Boyz.

Fight:
Captain kills 4 Boyz, takes 2W in return.

Stormboyz kill the Razorback and consolidate


Morale:
Orks use 2CP for the grots to autopass, Boyz make their roll.

Marines earn 1 Primary, 2 Secondary, and 1 Tertiary point

Turn 2 Orks
Spoiler:

Movement:
Nobs advance out of the woods, while the Weirdboy walks into them.


Operation: Get behind the weedy gits.


Zhad and lonely Nob head out to try and get rid of some infantry.


Zaggy hoofs it towards the woods while the other Kommando squad comes in to guard him.


Psychic:
Both Weirdboyz Smite, dealing 2W to the Talon and 1W to the Raven.

No Shooting of consequence.

Charge:
SB Nob goes first but doesn't making, leaving Zhad to pick up his slack.


Nob squad charges a Razorback and LSS, taking 1W in OW


Fight:
Nobs kill the LSS and fail to wound the Razorback, Zhad will kill only 2 Tacticals.


Space Marines interrupt after the Nobs to have the Bike Captain kill 4 more boyz, again taking 2W in return.

Back in the center, Stormboyz kill 4 Tacs and put 2W on the LT, while 4 SB die.

Orks earn 1 Tertiary point

Razor and Tacs fall back


LT and Tac Sgt also fall back


Planes remain to rain down the pain


Shooting:
Now you see them...


Now you don't.


Not to be outdone, Ven Dread, Black Razor, LT, and Techmarine go to town. Once again only the Nob is left standing.


The TFC kills 3 of the Kommandos guarding Zaggy, while Tacs put 3W on Zhadsnark. Scouts shoot 1 Nob from the Nob squad.

Charge: Scouts and Tacticals charge Zhad.

Fight:
Scouts whiff, and Tacs manage 1W on Zhadl. Zhad kills 4 Tacs.


Bike Captain 6 Jump Boyz and takes no wounds after using 1CP to reroll a save.

Morale: SB Nob runs, Kommandos pass, 5 Jump Boyz run. Tac Sgt passes






Marines score 1 Tertiary point


Turn 3 Orks
Spoiler:

Movement:
Zaggy decides to hide out in the woods, everyone nearby heads out to surround him.


Rockers shuffle up into Smite range


Nobs move up to give their Boss a hand.


Psychic: Both WB again Smite, dealing 3W to the Talon and 2W to the Raven.

No shooting again.

Charge:
Nobs charge Scouts and Tacticals


Fight:
Nobs wipe out both the Scouts and the Tacs.

Bike Captain Interrupts again, so rude. He doesn't quite get the job done though so the Nob teaches him some manners


Orks earn SLAY THE WARLORD

Zhadsnark finishes the Tactical Sgt.

Orks score 2 Secondary and 1 Tertiary point

Planes head back to fart on the woods.


Coming back to get their objective


Shooting:
TFC finishes off the Kommandos. Stormraven unloads into Zaggy dealing 3W, but the Talon completely whiffs.

Razorbacks, LT, Tac Sgt, and Ven Dread kill 5 Nobs. Techmarine scorches the lone Jump Boyz Nob still left in the ruins.

No Charge/Fight:

Morale: Nobs pass morale leaving the Objective contested.

Marines score 1 Tertiary point



Turn 4 Orks
Spoiler:

Movement:
Zhad and Nobs move out to clear out the Objective.


Everyone moves around to protect Zaggy and the Relic


The Smite shuffle continues


Psychic: Both Weirboyz smite the Talon, bringing it down after a 1CP wound reroll

No shooting yet again.

Charge:
Nobs charge the nearby Razorback, while Zhad goes for the other Razorback along with the LT and Sgt. No OW damage.

Fight:
Nobs bring the Razor down to 1W, while Zhad kills both the LT and Sgt AND puts 7W on the Razorback.


Orks score 1 Tertiary point

Turn 5 Marines
Spoiler:

Movement:
Raven hovers so it can unload on the woods.

Shooting:
TFC only manages to kill 2 Boyz in the woods, leaving the Raven to finish the job, and unable to go for the HQs.


Ven Dread picks off the Grots near Rocker Weirdboy, as he can't see anything else.

Charge/Fight: LT charges Zhadsnark and kills him. Orks use 1CP to reroll a save to no avail. Nobs finish off the Razorback, earning SHOOT THE BIG ONES for the Orks.


Marines score 1 Tertiary point.



Turn 5 Orks
Spoiler:


Movement:
Nobs go get some


Rockers move back toward the objective and out of sight of that nasty Dread


Psychic: Woods Weirdboy smites the Raven for 3W

Shooting: Haha, no.

Charge/Fight: Nobs charge the Razorback and LT, 1 dies to OW. They kill the Razorback and put 2W on LT. LT whiffs.

Orks score 2 Secondary and 1 Tertiary point.

Current Score:

Orks: 8

Marines need the game to keep going to try and knock that relic out of Ork hands. We roll, and game continues.



Turn 6 Marines
Spoiler:

Stormraven stays put and unloads into Zaggy again, but only manages 2W after some boss FNP saves. TFC puts 2W on the Woods Weirdboy


LT only manages 1W on the Nobs before being run over.

Turn 6 Orks
Spoiler:

Nobs move on the Techmarine and objective.

Weirdboy smites the Raven some more for 4W.

Nobs charge the Techmarine and kill him, while managing to avoid nasty flamer overwatch.

Orks score 1 Tertiary point

Afterword
Spoiler:

Holy was that close. 1 different die roll and Zaggy would have dropped. If this had gone to 7 I most likely would have been tabled as well, but his lone infantry model would have still been too far to get near the relic. Without Zaggy to use the character targeting rules this would have been a far different game, that shooting is just savage and entire mobs just vanish. I was confident I could knock out all his infantry, but he practically did the same to me . Still, focusing on the mission is what saved the day again.
