Looks like most if not all the big Chaos subfactions can take Monsters of Chaos as allies. What do people think are the best of the beasties?

I am liking a Chimera for the ranged mortal wounds, speed and durability, plus they are pretty good in combat, plus adding 2" to charge range is nice. Razorgors are cool too and can be fielded in groups of 6, rerolling charge ranges and hitting better on the charge at Rend -1....that is better than Bullgors with the dual axes (Warherds are another ally for some of the Chaos subfactions).

Anyone field Cockatrices? They're pretty cheap and can do some damage. But so very vulnerable. Maybe running a flock of 4 in a 400 point allied slot is the trick for them?

Love those old monster models, hate to see them relinquished to the shelf. I suppose the lack of general buffing to non specific models is the problem.

I want to run a Cockatrice, just because it fits thematically with my Tzaangor Warflock. It helps that I like the model as well.

Yeah, it's one of the more artfully classic GW models. Would be a good cheap shock unit for giving the enemy something they have to deal with. Those talons are pretty nasty.

I'm a big fan of the Chimera. My two Chaos factions (Slaves to Darkness and Khorne Bloodbound) are sadly lacking in mortal wound generation, so that dragon breath really helps. Also working on getting a Slaughterbrute painted for the shear damage output.

2000 Khorne Bloodbound (Skullfiend Tribe- Aqshy)
1000 Tzeentch Arcanites (Pyrofane Cult - Hysh) in progress
2000 Slaves to Darkness (Ravagers)

Chimera for me, mine hangs with my brey herd as an summons or allie. Hes fast vicious and causes mortal wounds which breys lack outside of arcane bolt and you dont want the shaman that close as there squishy. Thinking about a cockatrice they look really good (model wise).
