I listen to Radio 4 Extra, usually the classic comedy hour. Tonight I was highlighting my dreadnought while listening to The Men From The Ministry, pure unalloyed joy!

I listen to podcasts on my mobile phone. Mostly history related, I add new shows when I run out of things to listen to. So far I listen to History of China, History of Byzantium, History of Egypt, Hardcore History, In our Time, Rex Factor, Saga Thing, Revolutions, D6G, Samurai Archives and have a few more waiting for me to run out of episodes.

All dark and angry music (with a hint of humor) of mine on shuffle.
Goth, Death Metal, Darkwave, Doom Metal, Industrial (preference given to martial beats), anything dark... seems appropriate.
Accompanied by the sound of laundry running up stairs, water flowing through pipes and the two cats circling me trying to get MOAR hair on my painted models.
Would you believe I am the owner of said house?
Summoning method of the "basement troll" is to stomp on the floor above his head (due to the loud music).

I just listen to music on my headphones. whatever comes up is usually fine. I can't listen to anything with people talking though, that just throws me off.

Sun ra has actually some of my favorite painting music, but sun ra also has a lot of my favorite everything.

Me too, although I find myself having to rewind because I wasn't paying attention.

HJistory of the World in 100 Objects is worth a listen if that's not already on your list, too.

Believe it or not, I often play Runescape at the same time as I paint. I let my character grind a skill that doesn't require much clicking, and paint while my character works (obviously, not any kind of combat!). Otherwise, I just watch stuff on Netflix (mostly Star Trek TNG currently) or listen to music on Youtube (Two Steps from Hell is my go to here). Occasionally I'll put on a 40k battle report or watch some of Duncan Rhodes' many painting videos. I pick up a trick or two that way.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000
Check out my P&M Blogs: ZergSmasher's P&M Blog | Imperial Knights blog | Board Games blog | Total models painted in 2023: 40 | Total models painted in 2024: 12 | Current main painting project: Dark Angels

I watch Netflix while painting and sometimes listen to music. More often than not though I just paint in silence.

Watch movies (normally ones I've seen enough that I don't get distracted and end up actually watching them...). So I suppose it's more like listening to movies.

I listen to podcasts or watch movies usually. Funnily enough I don't actually listen to any wargaming podcasts, although there are vast amounts of them, but when I watch movies they'll usually be at least tangentially related. Less frequently I'll put on a movie soundtrack to paint to, which will have a big tie to whatever I paint (for example when I paint Batman models I'll be listening to a combination of the soundtracks from Batman v Superman, The Dark Knight Rises and The Dark Knight because Hans Zimmer is a genius)

I mainly play 30k, but am still fairly active with 40k. I play Warcry, Arena Rex, Middle-Earth, Blood Bowl, Batman, Star Wars Legion as well

Movies, TV, or music (usually just pick a station on Pandora)

One thing I learned is that any comedy is a bad idea to listening to while painting. Had a good laugh during an Archer episode tragically cut short when I realized my hand had slipped and horribly botched a free handed Lamenters pauldron I was working on.

Turn based games, Live Civ VI. Or MMOs that I can AFK and craft.

Getting up and switching between my painting and computer desks helps me do both longer. If I just sat in one spot, I’d end of a ball of pain after not that long.

Sometimes I’ll put a layer of paint down, watch an episode of something on netflix in the recliner, and then put another coat on. Slow, but relaxing.

I used to just play music. These days, it's either a movie that I know well enough to not need to watch, brainless TV that I don't need to pay too much attention to, or audio books.

I often try to have a movie playing in the background. One I have seen before, but that only happens if Mrs Captain Brown is watching YouTube in the bedroom and Ms Captain Brown is asleep.

If I am on my own I just enjoy the silence. We also have my wife's piano set up next to my painting desk so I am often listening to classical piano music too.

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Generally music of a relaxing variety; Lofi mixes on YouTube, various jazz artists, some more upbeat big band stuff sometimes. I also put on movies that I've seen before, that way I don't really need to watch them; Interstellar is great for this, such a long movie.

Now with a newborn I generally keep to lighter music though, she's a Lofi fan
