So the new edition has been keeping me quite busy. Many units are now viable and - more imporantly - fun to play with! But in my mind, the new stars of 8th are Khorne Berzerkers, hitting just about twice as hard as most other melee specialists.

Sadly, the current models are about 25 years old and have not aged all that well. So, when the new Codex for Chaos Space Marines hit the shelves, my goal was clear: Build better berzerkers!

They are build from Khorne Blood Warriors from the AoS starter kit, mixed with some Forgeworld parts - mostly the wonderful World Eaters Conversion Set - and the Space Marine pieces come from all over GW's range. Blood Angels, Space Wolves, MkIII, MkIV, it's all there. And of course, tthere are some third party bits in there as well, mostly Maxmini and Anvil Industry. If you'd like me to point out the origin of any individual bits, just tell me.
Regarding the chains, i got mine from PK-pro, but mostly any kind of jewlers chain will do.

And the 'zerkers shoudln't be hitting the battlefield all by themselves, so i build them a matching Exalted Champion: The Headsman!

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

These are just fantastic! The fact that you made 20 indivual Zerkers with quite detailed conversions is very impressive.

I wonder, can I have the recipe for your Exalted Champion? I've been looking for making one of my own and that model you have there looks amazing!

Oh, well, you start with Forgeworld's Lord Zhufor's Legs and scrape off most of the World Eaters insignia. And then you paint and strip them twice, but that part is entirely optional. Then you go on and grab old Archaons upper body. I seem to remember some scraping being involved there, as well, but that happend literally a decade ago. His right arm is also Lord Zhufor's, with the lower part of his weapon hailing from the plastic terminator sorcerer/lord's kit, the sorcerer's staff, to be precise. The axe is part of Forgeworld's Cataphractii Power Axes set. His left arm is a Grey Knight terminator's arm. The power cable is from Dragon Forge, and quite handy for all kinds of conversions. The head, of course, is from the World Eaters Conversion Set. The backpack really doesn't matter, you can hardly even notice that he's wearing one, so i suppose you can fit just about anything back there.

Woof, that's a lot of kits! May I also inquire as to where the cape came from? I thought it was the Termie Lord cape but upon closer inspection it seems to drift to the side far more.

Nope, that's just plain old Archie's cape back there!
Not my picture.

So, i've been busy. Base layers and washes are finished on 8 out of 20 Berzerkers.

These are obviously not finished, but at least they are somewhat presentable (meaning playable) at this stage. I will see too fixing up the rest of the squad until i move on towards the finer detals.

Also decided to add this Evil Craft Sorcerer to the project as a Dark Apostle for those sweet to hit rerolls.

He's not so much a conversion, but you hardly see the model around, and he also got a nice Khorne-ish feel to him, with all the skulls and such. Again, this guy is not finished yet.

The first batch of 'zerkers is finished. I'm pretty happy with the results, only 16 more to go!

Thank you! I'm still getting used to the technique, but the results are encouraging. At least for this kind of over-the-top look that i'm going for.

Another four down, only eight to go.

Thanks guys, you're welcome to do some creational pilfering.

Another four berserkers finished!

Also done with the Apostle - now if i only had enough money to afford an entire army made by Evil Craft, that would be something!

These are bloody lovely. But having recently looked at my older Zerks, I could build better ones than the officials just by sticking guns on. The newish Khornate AOS guys

I used GW's Blood for the Blood God and two brushes: A long haired one (a tooth brush might do as well) and a short one for some dabbing. Both brushes were rather old at this point so i could abuse them at my leisure. I thinned down the BftBG a little by adding about 20% water to it. I did the big blood spatter first, by adding a fair amount to the long haired brush and flicking the brush towards model from a fixed point to give the illusion of blood spray. You might want to use a glove for this part, because it will get messy. I dipped the short brush into the colour to futher add some futher blood stains to the model and that's basically it.

It's been a while since my last update, but i've finally managed to finish the last four 'zerkers.

Same goes for the Exalted Champion.

Looking back i very much enjoyed this simple and quick project and, of course, the new rules for the chosen of Khorne also helped a lot with that. Planing ahead, i see myself converting another batch of 20 Berzerkers in the not-so-distant future, but for now i have some Death Guard to work on. And also some Rhinos for those poor, foot slogging World Eaters...

looking great there VyRa!

With the chains, do you superglue them solid once on the mini or are they still 'loose'?

Thanks, Buddy. I tried using superglue on the chains, but the residue just ruined the look for me. So now i just let them hang lose. Primer and a few coats of paint usually fix them up good enough, so that's what i would recommend.
