Sort of.

Hi all. Hope you are all well.

I am a 41 year old married man with a dog, cats, nearly 3 year old lad and another child in the oven as I type. Exciting times ahead. Back in the very late 80s and early 90s I used to frequent the local Games Workshop in Derby where I made some great friends and had some very fun times playing the large variety of games back then. I had most of them in some for or another. I used to play WH40k quite a lot and as I got older I found girls () pubs and beer to boot. Anyway. After reading last year about Blood Bowl having been re-released I thought I would take a look and after a little research I found myself wanting to get it. I have now the permission of the wife to take the plunge and give it a blast.

Fast forward to the other day I went into my Derby GW again after 20+ years of not going even down the street it is on. I had the intention of having a look at the Blood Bowl game but they don't stock it. It can be ordered in or I can get it online. So after a chat about what's in the game and what's not in it anymore I decided to go ahead and take the plunge, but not until payday which is a week away. I can wait. Anyway, Steve, the man in the shop talked to me about the old days and the new 40k edition. I was interested.

We had a little demo move and shoot on the table that was already laid out and I quite liked it, seems a little more streamlined than the 2nd edition I played before. Faster paced and a little more simpler. He went through the box sets they have, from the very simple starter pack to the bigger 2 small army one. I was very tempted on that too. I had a chat with the wife and she just said, "you never treat yourself so why not" and "are you up to painting them?" I have not painted anything since the early 90s. So this will be fun. I know of the Youtube videos I can watch and so on, so there is an abundance of tutorials out there to 'brush' up on my skillz. See what I did there

Anyway, I hope to be active on here as soon I will purchasing BB and WH40k next month. I will be posting in another thread regarding help and a little advice so.... see you all there.

Regards C

Amazing story.
I still like the old ways better, and am hoping that the newHammer will take on some of the old extra dimensions.
Painting for me at this age (a bit older than are you) is down to vision - I just don't seem to see as well as I did. Maybe it is the years of beers and whiskeys, maybe it is just the years, but take your time, do your best, learn your ways, and things will sort themselvesout.
I like Luke's APS for Youtube vids on painting these days, maybe check him out.
Lots of good people here on Dakka.
You can get good advice. people will take their time. Looking forward to the next twenty five then! Cheers!

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

Welcome back to the game! I also played 2nd (and 1st and 3rd) then dropped out until just before 7th. 8th is pretty good - includes some bits that have been missing since 2nd, but much simpler.

Have fun with it!

Dark Angels/Deathwing - just getting started!
Space Marines - Stark Crusaders 4500pts/PL244 (2700pts painted)
Eldar - Biel Tan 2000pts
Space Wolves 1500pts

My Blog - mostly 40k, some HeroQuest
