I thought this was interesting, and following it to the reddit link is also a good read.

Just sell that stuff... E.g. my Massive Darkness Ligthbringer Pledge sold for at least double the price I paid on Kickstarter.

Problem is some games are a bust and you would be lucky to break even. The article was about a person who has spent $16k on boardgame ks.

I know, I've read the article.
So, you only make even... what is the problem? Sell the games, get help and its another stupid additction.

I think the point is to spread the word regarding the issue and the help that can be associated with the addiction. To you and I it may be as simple as 'sell the games, get help and it's another stupid addiction' - to others, it can/will be remarkably hard/impossible to take those steps.

This Ranker2 kid would have spent his income on gambling, video game cosmetic skins, stocks, or something else if it was not for Kickstarter. He clearly seems unnerved and not all that intelligent with his paychecks. He's a young guy and started using chunks of his salary into preorders.
He's spent $500 alone on hearthstone in 2015~ a game that generally costs are 200/year to stay competitive if you don't grind it as if it was a full time job. (Blizzard's card game you can play on your mobile device) - which are digital un-tradeable cards you game with. I've spent around 200/year on the game myself. Lot's of whales/gamblers buying packs in the community.

I think you are partly right, he would have spent the money somewhere. Kickstarting board games is better than gambling or strip clubs, but even Ranker2 admits the money could have been better spent elsewhere (bold emphasis mine):
Ranker2 on Reddit wrote:[–]ranker2[S] 201 points 4 days ago
I always wished I could afford all the board games and minis I wanted as a child. After a decade of hard work, I'm now a partner at a law firm and part of ownership for a successful side small business. It helps to be unmarried with a gf who's a professional in the medical field (I don't have to support her). This isn't meant to be a humblebrag at all but rather an acknowledgment of how fortunate my position is to afford these KS mistakes. This carthartic thread if anything has made me realize I've wasted a ton of money that's better spent elsewhere.
So he is likely a DINK (Dual Income No Kids), who has a lot of disposable income to play around with. Hopefully he learns from this and doesn't continue pissing away his money.
Guy probably has a killer gaming room, though.

I don't know, partner in a law firm = no time to put them together and paint them.
His game room might be a lot of boxs.

True. Though, one area he can funnel that extra income is commission painting. That would get things into shape pretty quickly, though it would end up costing more than the original outlay of board game funds!

I know a wonderful guy thats a such and such stock trader guy that simply hires people to paint his models. He spends his time attending events, cons, and the local monthly tournaments instead of trying to spend time rush painting models. He'll build them at times though.
