It might just be me being an old grump but I'm starting to feel FFG are starting to feel somewhat akin to old Geedubs

Whilst I appreciate they are a business I'm getting a bad feeling...

Thoughts ?

Stuff like the Legion scale change, whilst I personally dont give a hoot, seems like chasing potential customers at the expense of existing ones, or Kylo's TIE being in a box rather than a big blister just to up the price, the last few X-Wing wave being mehh

Just small things like that whilst not setting off alarm bells there is still a mild disturbance in the Force

These are the same as new Geedubs tactics.

The Primaris scale change.

The packaging of individual or grouped miniatures in expensive boxes.

So nothing is new.

Remember that we haven't seen much about the new ships yet, and Kylo's TIE may be in a large box for a reason.

If that's true, I'm a little more impressed by the ship.

No. That would be insane.

I have seen this speculated about and hope its not true.

On the subject matter at large, I got that feeling when it was announced that Asmodee were taking over and that deep discounting would not be allowed any more. Realistically though shipping from the States is always so expensive it hasn't made much of a difference to me.

The Legion scale change is odd (I assume you mean change from IA) but at the end of the day I don't care and will use IA models regardless and don't plan on going to tourneys.

As for the last couple of waves being meh for x-wing, well that's your opinion and only your opinion. A look through the lists for all of the nationals that have happened show loads of wave 11 presence so obviously people are buying it, the gunboat is being made due to popular demand (it does nothing for me), all of wave 13 hasn't been announced yet (still a SKU missing).

Personally I am a little miffed about three things, Scum Aces not being out by now, no campaign box being released (perfect time to upgrade loads of rebs with Scariff content) and the fact that we are going to get a third Falcon (thought that's due to the mouse's film making, not FFG).

Shadowrun is the best game ever. It's the only thing I have ever played in which I have jumped out of a shot out van with a chainsaw to cut a flying drone in half before leveling a building with ANFO assisted by a troll, a dwarf, an elf, and a wizard.

I assume Kylo's TIE is in a larger box for promotional purposes, honestly. Lots of shelf space to sell the shiny new toy prominently featured in the shiny new movie.

The Han Solo movie has a different paint job on the Falcon. Thus FFG would need to put out a new model for it.

Which lets be fair, is most likely the fault of the people making the Han Solo movie. FFG just makes miniatures and rules for stuff as Disney makes it. Not their fault the next thing up is yet another Falcon.

As for complaining about the Legion scale change... That's just silly. It's a totally different game from Imperial Assault. Frankly, you should be happy the scale is close enough to be able to use the IA miniatures without much fuss. They're close enough for casual gaming. And you'd need to buy actual Legion stuff anyway because it's FFG, there will be tons of tokens and cards that you need.

Kylo's TIE Silencer is in a larger box for several reasons.

This ship is actually pretty huge. The actual model would not have been out of place on a large base. It's length alone looks like it would prevent it from being in a blister. Putting it in a large ship box was probably their only option aside from "design a new box just for this ship", which would be expensive.

And of course there is the rumored 4-5 speed banks/turns.

The thing about IA/Legion scale isn't an issue personally as I don't play either but it does seem like a very GW move, ie you'll buy this cos Star Wars, just comply like good consumer-bots

The Silencer box might have good reasons but without more info does smack of testing a price hike, although if they'd held off showing the box and the reveal the box and its reasons it would have most likely slid

I know this looks like an FFG bash, and its really not they've worked hard to get where they are but I think they are in danger of spreading too thin and quality sliding, I hope I'm wrong but the next year or so will be interesting

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

If FFG start with perennial price rises, repackaging a smaller number of miniatures in the box for the same price, new versions of the game that are 0.1 increment on previous rules but necessitate purchase, smack down on fan sites, prevent over-seas sales and price gouging for Aus customers, or completely kill off a game and replace it with another then you can start making comparisons.

Know GW seem to have got a lot better over previous years, but FFG have got some serious killing of younglings to do if they're going to reach the super-sith level of GW in the past.

I think it depends on which game you play.

If you're playing X-wing then yes, it's pretty much GW all over again, possibly even worse.. The economy of cards and the way they are distibuted across the range means that to be competitive you've got to buy a bunch of stuff you don't need to get the stuff you want and just the general price structure that the painted (albeit nicely painted) minis command means that you're going to be in for GW-kind-of-money.

If you're playing Runewars it's a bit less so. The prices arent' much lower-per-fig, but the game requires generally less minaitures, has no expensive rulebooks/codices, and all the cards you need will be included in your own faction so you won't end up buying figures you don't need to remain competitive.

If you're playing something like Imperial Assault, it totally depends. You can get everything the game has released (including all 5 expansions) for around $800 retail or 6-700 at online prices. That's a big chunk-o-change, but you can also get many many hours of play out the core game (which is quite a bargain compared to other games) before ever needing to buy anything else. and you if you're not a completionist you don't have to add much to increase the scope of the game.
