So anyone else having problems with these sites on chrome? they seem to eat a lot of memory and processor power.

That'll be all the ad and malware they're running.

Seriously though, do you go into McDonalds asking for help with problems at Burger King?

A better analogy would be probably going into a McDonalds asking for help with problems on heart disease or asking Denny's for help with racism.

Forums are where people discuss things. Spikey Bits and BOLS are where people go to get news or other articles.

Eh, perfectly fine question in my book. As stated earlier, they're both pretty heavy on ads and suck up a ton of 'puter juice. I avoid BoLS completely. Spikey Bits can be OK but never over the phone.
At least Spikey tries to ad value to your click by having articles, BoLS is strictly click bait in my opinion.

I used to visit BoLS every day. My favorite article was their Friday "Outside The Box" piece that showed me miniature lines I was otherwise unfamiliar with.

Now, I mostly avoid it. You think using Chrome is hard, try visiting the site using Internet Explorer. Having one of their articles load is like trying to stream HD videos with dial-up. It literally takes 5 minutes to load and crashes three or four times before you can read it. Not to mention my Norton Antivirus keeps throwing alerts at me.

Internet explorer? oh dear friend, i am so sorry, and i feel your pain. I too remember the days in the before for times when I.E. was your only option.... that and netscape and netscape is gone for a reason.

BoLS and Spikey Bits are perfect examples of what happens when you monetize your website so much, that it drowns out the actual content of the website. Both websites suck on whatever platform or browser you use. Seriously. I wish those guys would reign in their advertisement plan and remember why they started their websites in the first place.

I've tried several times to leave feedback, even posting screen shots of the performance hit and resources required to load their pages as they suck the life out of my computer (never mind phone or tablet- I don't even bother anymore). The last time I was at BoLS, using Firefox over a broadband connection, the entire front page took over 10 minutes to fully load. It maxed out my CPU, most of my 16 GB of RAM, disk, and network. I actually had to reload the page after Firefox popped up saying basically that because I had cookies turned off, it couldn't load the entire page. After I turned cookies back on, over 250MB of crap was stored on my local hard disk, and my anti-virus along with Windows Firewall/Defender was squawking the entire time. Terrible, terrible design. 75% of the front page is dedicated to advertisement. Don't get me started on the pop up adds.

BoLS doesn't care. They throw up articles with no editing (spelling and grammar mistakes really? Did they even use a word processor or just type it out on notepad?), poor format, and no fact checking at all. As long as they earn that $0.00001 cent for each click, they don't care.

It used to be about the game. Now it's about that click.

This is the website from which those articles were drawn, http://ttfix.blogspot.com/ Eliminate the middle man and go straight to the source.

If one must visit a site like BoLS, use some add-ons like Request Policy continued, Privacy Badger and NoScript on Firefox. I imagine that this would significantly reduces the cruft. I haven't looked at the site in 7-8 years. It was garbage then. I bet it is still garbage now.

Ad Blocker Plus takes care of most of the problems.

Some of the ads they run have serious issues tho. I suspect they are not related to Chrome per se, have noticed processor utilization goes up on Safari, Opera and Firefox as well.

Guys, BOLS is what Adblock is for!

Or would be, if the content weren't crap.
