Hey guys,

So I've always liked Colonel Straken as a character, but my emphasis on Cadian-only models for my Cadian 8th force means the GW one was out of the question. I decided to bash up a proxy Straken model that would be WYSIWYG-accurate and retain some of the character that makes him unique. I'm really happy with the results so felt like sharing.

Thanks for looking.

Great job, you got the feel of Straken in a Cadian look. Also nice paint job.

827th Auxilia Cohort (ad mech fun)

Great paintwork. Nicely done. Love the base.

Thanks guys!

The basing is my usual basic job. I used to try elaborate bases for models but it ended up sucking too much of my time which isn't in as big supply as it used to be. I'm happy with the dry-ish mud, dead grass and tuft look. It's simple enough to be done quickly but not too simple that it looks lazy - at least in my opinion.

I have noticed after checking these pics that I forgot to paint hte small stone he is stepping off of. Oops!

Great work!

Just needs some Colonel markings on his shoulder pad to finish him off!

pretty cool, only thing is the stance of holding the shooty like that without bracing and on his non mechanical arm, also a trophy somewhere on him or on the base would match his badassness.

As with lots in 40K, the rule of cool came into play more than practicality when it came to point 1 so that doesn't concern me. I was looking at adding some kind of Tyranid trophy to him (they litter bases of one in 10 of my guys) but couldn't really find a spot once all his gear was slapped on... I'll maybe see about revisiting it. Maybe the base would be the better option in that case. He's a bit bulkier with all the Cadian armour so there's a little less room to play with unfortunately.
