So far we have had 3 primarchs and 3 codexs hit. Do you think each faction will get some super crazy lord of war?

I am hoping the tyranids have the swarmlord super buffed up.

Thoughts?

Every faction doesn't even have a Lord of War...

But primarch? Chaos Space Marines only have Abaddon, and he's only for Black Legion. He's not a primarch. Their Lord of War is the Lord of Skulls, which is a giant tank.

Space Marines have a primarch but it's Ultramarines.
Thousand Sons have a primarch.
Death Guard have a primarch.

Ad Mech does not have a primarch. They have Cawl, who like Abaddon is just a really awesome guy to have around, as long as you're playing Mars forgeworld.

Grey Knights have no primarch either. Just Draigo. Who thinks he's a primarch. They also lack a Lord of War unless you go ForgeWorld for the Thunderhawk Gunship, which like half the factions in the game can get.

I hope so. Each army needs a centrepiece model!

my guesses
Nids - either the swarmlord or some big bug (Hierophant!?)
Necrons - Tesseract Vault / Transcendants
Eldar - Avatar? or some wraith titan
Dark Angels - the Lion for sure
Space Wolves - again, Russ for sure
Dark Eldar - Vect would be a good pick
IG - Baneblade and it's variants
Blood Angels - with their primarch dead either a fluff bomb of "look, he's been revived by Cawl!" or maybe a angelic sanquinor or something
Orks - Stompa
Tau - Stormsurge or some bigger suit

"Courage and Honour. I hear you murmur these words in the mist, in their wake I hear your hearts beat harder with false conviction seeking to convince yourselves that a brave death has meaning.
There is no courage to be found here my nephews, no honour to be had. Your souls will join the trillion others in the mist shrieking uselessly to eternity, weeping for the empire you could not save.

To the unfaithful, I bring holy plagues ripe with enlightenment. To the devout, I bring the blessing of immortality through the kiss of sacred rot.
And to you, new-born sons of Gulliman, to you flesh crafted puppets of a failing Imperium I bring the holiest gift of all.... Silence."

Color me surprised if Ghazghkull Thraka doesn't get a new kit and a proper "Primarch" statline. He is the biggest Ork in the galaxy after all and the model is more or less ancient. I suppose he should have gained a few pounds since then.

Ad Mech gets an Imperial Knight with Canticles of the Omnissiah if a tech priest is within 12 inches of it. So not a Primarch, but flesh is weak, all hail the machine god.

Well, I have Angron, the Primarch of the BA.
Its a very nice FW model. But we dont play 30k atm. I am thinking about selling him...

I'm starting to think that GW is aiming to have each race have one super HQ of some sort. We have our Ghazghkull we got our swarmlord. I think when these books hit, we are going to have much heavier stat lines for them.

Sounds like the ad mech book has one too, I guess to really confirm the super HQ theory will be November when the 3 books hit.

Meh, every race already had a super HQ in 7th.

Primarchs are special because the daemon ones are tanky as hell and the Guilliman force multiplies your shooting by 50%.

I hope not. Named characters who pop up in every game against a given faction are easily the worst thing about 40K right now. Bobby G's the absolute worst of the lot because the figure's total dog eggs.

I'd much prefer more in the way of options for generic HQ choices, essentially allowing you to create your own characters.

Well the big Tau update next year is for "Tau are getting something that is not part of the Tau Empire'. In response to a person asking Lady Atia if there was any themed army releases AoS style coming out for 40k. So naturally fans are split on if this means auxiliaries or Farsight Enclaves or some other random thing.

If it's a new aux race who knows what centrepiece kit it will have. If it's FSE then you can bet it's probably some sort of super battle suit for Farsight and probably some big new melee battlesuit of death.

Did you just use "melee" positively in a sentence referring to Tau??

I'd absolutely love to see Tau becoming its own faction, with things like Vespids and Kroot eventually getting their own codex releases. They'd add so much flavour just by being different.

As for Lords of War, most factions either already have a decent centerpiece model, or don't really need one.
One of the few exceptions I can think of is Vect, who used to have a model and is the clear choice for a big HQ/LoW (on his Dias) model for Dark Eldar

As for Primarchs, I really REALLY hope they stop at some point. Some Primarchs make sense, like the Daemon ones, as they are still alive in the 41st millennium. Balance those with a few loyalist ones and you are set.
We do not need 18 freakin' primarchs running around in 40K. Keep that nonsense to 30k thank you very much.

We have Magnus, Mortarion & Guiliman so far
I can easily see Fulgrim & Angron, maybe Lorgar & Peutrabo (spelling?) as they are all ascended to Daemonhood and thus unkillable.
That would give the forces of Chaos 6 total Primarchs.
To balance that out, we would need to find/resurrect 4-5 Loyalist Primarchs. The Lion and Khan are good possibilities, as well as Russ or Vulkan. I'm not sure who else.

I know for sure we will not (or at least SHOULD NOT) see Horus, Sanguinius, Dorn, Curze or Ferrus Manus. Because they're dead.
At most, I hope we never see more than 5 Primarchs per side.

There are 4 codexes.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

No. Not every faction gets the spotlight.

If you ask me, each Chaos faction will get a Primarch. The Tzeentchians already have Magnus and the Nurglites got Mortarion. It seems only likely that we will see Angron for the Khornates and Fulgrim for the Slaaneshi as well.
On the loyalist side, either they are sticking with just Guilliman or they are bringing back enough to match the Chaos ones.
My guess would then be for the Lion, Sanguinius and Russ, so that every major Space Marine codex (SM, BA, DA and SW) has a Primarch available. And yeah, Sanguinius may be dead, but since when have trivial details like that stopped GW? A lot of BA players would feel really left out if everyone got a Primarch apart from them. They will find a way to resurrect him somehow.

With the due respect, this would be soap-opera level writing.

Generic characters disappearing? Elite units of your army losing options and customizations? No longer finding that motivation to convert?

I think nids may sventually get a dominatrix reimagined into being a primarch equivalent buff/murder machine.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

I will say absolutely yes. Why? Because GW has been reaching new heights of price-per-plastic lately and they smell blood in the water. The more successful $90-140 hero kits they sell, the more they're going to produce.

He doesn't hold a candle to the primarchs. He has a good aura that wants to stay with the shooting, and in a Mars army he has fantastic Canticle control. Then he's about a mid-level melee character. He can hold his own against any no-name character, but basically any other named character will mess him up. His survivability comes from self healing and other tech priests being able to heal him. So you've got a fairly decent melee champ that under no circumstances wants to get in melee range, with a 12" gun.

I think Cawl is a well balanced character, but he has no place in a conversation about primarch level stuff... A knight on the other hand has a chance against a primarch.

Two thoughts on that: Fabulous Billy and Cloning. It's already happened to Horus once. Something to think about.

Galef wrote:At most, I hope we never see more than 5 Primarchs per side.

Over all, I can agree with that. If one wants to run dead Primarchs, there is always 30K, after all. I'm not saying its not impossible to have more, but the market can only take so much crack in the system.

znelson wrote:I want a primarch for Aeldari...

Doesn't the Triumvirate cover that?

----------------

For some other thoughts:
Farsight in a heavily modified Riptide, or maybe his Riptide protoge'.

Ghazgull in a new developed state. He's been running around for a LONG time. I don't think he could match Emperor size, but he should be getting closer to Primarch size at some point now that they've allowed the time line to progress.

Vecht would only get a big model kit for his Dais. It's about time for it to be made, but we could also be looking at something from the Haemonculous side of operations where he merged himself with a super-Talos or something.

Grey Knights could have a Character Dreadknight.

And Tyranids already have their's.

Are you a Wolf, a Sheep, or a Hound?
