I'm having a hard time finding websites that discuss the game. I plan on getting into it when I get home next spring, and I know that there is supposed to be a new release of American stuff sometime soon, but I'm not able to find any information. Can anyone help me out?

The main places that talk about the game are the official forums (that I think are usually hidden unless you log in), WWPD and the facebook groups.

The US for TY are coming out after the US for FoW have finished being released. I think the current schedule is for November but BF can be a bit unreliable sometimes. The main features are rumoured to be M60 tanks, better AA, Humvees, LAV and USMC.

We do have some discussion here from time to time! But agree the forum coverage is pretty poor.

Otherwise there are a series of articles over on Beasts of War that are pretty good at the moment (both with the current ongoing campaign, and some artilces about the setting and game from a regular poster there).

Otherwise, as Durecellrabbit says, you need to go to the official FoW forum, register and TY has it's own forum section there.

As a fairly niche game TY discussion is limited to a few places on the web, the biggest being the main forum on flamesofwar.com / teamyankee.com.

As for US releases, it seems the two majors (USSR/USA) had an initial wave of releases and will sporadically get their lines expanded inbetween NATO/WARPAC minor releases. I feel that model works fairly well since a lot of the USSR/USA equipment is shared with the minor allies and those two nations have the largest variety of options.

While the Warsaw Pact used largely Soviet equipment (with a little bit of homegrown stuff), the same didn't apply to NATO and US equipment. There was some US equipment used by other nations. But there was also a lot of home-designed equipment (for instance, a lot of members had their own MBT; compare that with the Warsaw Pact, where Romania was the only country with a home-designed MBT). And the members that did use stuff designed by other NATO nations were just as likely as not to pick non-US equipment over US equipment.

In any case, the US needs the update badly. The US has been the most heavily restricted nation where list building is concerned since the game launched. And subsequent releases have made the issue even more noticeable. Stripes, the upcoming book, will be a welcome addition for US players.

Yeah, I've noticed that in terms of the US options. I've played a game of it, and watched maybe a dozen so far, and without a doubt, the US is the last option to take. I have no interest in the other factions though, largely because my local group has them all represented very well, and cause I'm a huge USA fanboi, so that was why I was waiting until the next update to start picking things up.

I think for the time being you'd be safe getting some of the basic 'core' options, such as infantry, Abrams etc. and getting those painted up.

As soon as Stripes comes along then you'll get some other alternatives for further units. I'm collecting Soviets and was in pretty much the same situation before the Red Thunder book came along.

Most forum coverage for most games is now pretty poor, with forum usage having declined considerably in the last two years.

The Facebook page is incredibly active, however.

"...and special thanks to Judgedoug!" - Alessio Cavatore "Now you've gone too far Doug! ... Too far... " - Rick Priestley "I've decided that I'd rather not have you as a member of TMP." - Editor, The Miniatures Page "I'd rather put my testicles through a mangle than spend any time gaming with you." - Richard, TooFatLardies "We need a Doug Craig in every store." - Warlord Games "Thank you for being here, Judge Doug!" - Adam Troke
