I love the Terminator series, but film number 6

I'm excited for it.

Terminator films are yet to fail to entertain me.

Yeah, same here. Even Genesys was entertaining, albeit, in a so bad it's good, kinda way

I think Genisys is very much underrated, and continue to consider Salvation the low point of the series.

See, with Genisys reviewers ragged on it for plot holes, when the were in fact plot hooks - who sent Pops back would be revealed in the second or third.

Every review I read seemed to start with 'I didn't like this film, then I watched it to find out why'

I like all the terminator movies also. #2 was my favorite, but I'll watch any of em anytime.

You take that back! Salvation was a great film.

Genesis and Salvation were both terrible. They really should have ended the series after 2, there was nowhere else for that story to go.

Plenty places for the story to go. Plenty of interesting, fun and exciting places. They just chose not to go to those places.

The only one I didn't care for was Salvation and even then it was sorta ok, but I really wish they'd kept the Sarah Conner Chronicles series going. Lena Headey did a really good job as Sarah and there was some awesome stuff going on in the plot that sadly didn't get resolved. I really hope they bring back Dr. Silberman complete with mental breakdown as he's a fixture of the films almost as much as Sarah or the Terminator. It's a franchise that even if the films aren't particularly good I'll still gladly sit through any of them as I just love the setting and dark future.

In Cameron we trust (well sort of).
Unless they decide to fairly radically shake things up, they are better off leaving #1 and 2 as classics. Leave well enough alone.

Terminator 3 was the low point of the series if you ask me.

I enjoyed salvation. I enjoyed genysys.

The first terminator though is still something of an absolute genius movie, if you ask me and easily one of my all time favourits, even though it hasn't aged well. Terminator 2 was the perfect sequel and had the film ended there, it would be regarded as a perfect ending.

Agree with you 100%.

T2 was the big film of my teenage years, I must have owned the film on different formats half a dozen times, and was lucky enough to see the recent one-off showing of T2 3D in cinemas. Other than a few moments (Arnie's Sonic the hedgehog roll at the end of the film) it's worn remarkably well. One thing cool on the big screen was how bloody frightening the nuclear explosion was, how violent (and made me come out of the cinema hoping that Trump and Kim Jong Un would just calm the feth down!)

T3 was a great drop in quality, remember being actually upset when I came out of the cinema. Genisys and Salvation weren't bad films, but could never match the magic of the first (and especially second).

One thing I thought about Genisys was how Emilia Clarke was a really poor piece of casting. Don't get me wrong, love her in GoT and think she is a good actress - but at no time were you intimidated by her physical strength and threatening attitude as you were by Linda Hamilton (not quite as frightening as the nuclear explosion, but up there!)

After the second film there's been a very steep drop in quality in the series.

T3 copied the 2nd film, but lacked the quality or purpose. Some of the action scenes were fun.

T4 dropped the quality again, the machines lost the lethal edge that had made them great villains, and used a stupid, nonsensical plot to basically do nothing, the story at the start of Salvation was identical to the story at the end. There was some well done action, but it was let down because the mess that surrounded it failed to give that action purpose or meaning.

Genysis or however it was spelled dropped another level of quality again. While I'm sure it cost a stupid amount to make, the film felt like a straight to DVD sequel. The issue with the plot wasn't its coherence, but its dreariness, just another pile of made up time travel gobbledigook. And this time not even some decently made action scenes were terrible. Arnie had some moments in this one, but that was nowhere near enough to make up for how crappy the film was.

So is T6 going to suddenly reverse the trend? No. It will be terrible, if it gets made at all. While the Terminator films after T2 have all had famous production issues, those issues didn't cause the bad movies. They were bad movies because they've lost track of what makes a Terminator story interesting. At some point the focus moved from being a story about being chased by ruthless, unstoppable killing machine, and started focusing on time travel shenanigans and trying to add surprise twists to the setting (Surprise John Connor has a robot heart now! Surprise John Connor is an evil robot now! Surprise no-one gives a gak any more).

And I like the TV series, even though that wandered a bit from the main purpose of the series. But it worked because in a TV format they were able to focus more on personal relationships, and the strange family Sarah Connor gathered around her were well drawn and well acted.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

I never recovered from T3.

I tried watching Salvation and Genysis while flying, but both failed to keep me awake despite trying to watch them 2 times each.

I will likely watch (or fall asleep trying) T6 while flying as well.

I was kind of hoping it would end with Genisys, so the series could have wrapped up with the ending of John Connor being assassinated by Dr Who

I think the first was superior to the second, even though T2 is one of the greatest sequels ever made. After that...T2 the stunt show is the closest thing I've seen to a worthy successor to the franchise.

The first one I actually think of as a horror movie. It legit creeks me right the hell out at times. Specially at the end when the Terminator climbs out of that burning truck, that whole ending just puts me on edge

James Cameron has spoken about the Terminator being inspired by a fever dream he had while sick, of a robot dragging itself out of a fire, armed with two knives and heading right for him. He then took a lot of inspiration and technical lessons from John Carpenter to translate that in to a film, who he described as a huge influence on his early work. Its a bit reductionist but the original Terminator is basically a Halloween style slasher movie with sci-fi trappings.

WUT??? Are they making another one??? I mean, I was expecting 5 to be the end. But I love Terminator and I would like to see the new one (as long as Schwarzenneger is in the movie, I am happy).

Now, my favourite from the series is 1, because of having more suspense. I found it to be scarier than all the other movies. In my opinion it was the perfect analogy of action, sci-fi and suspense.

Then goes 2, because it is an excellent action movie. I must have seen it more than 20 times and it never gets boring. A true masterpiece. Directors should watch this and take notes on how a good movie is made.

Tie between 3 and 5. I have seen 3 a lot of times and I kinda like it, but it is not perfect. The Terminator is "darker" than he was in 2, John Connor isn't the most important man to be saved and he is a dick crybaby IMO (he steals from a pharmacy to get drugs and in one scene where the whole SWAT is on a mission to kill them, he just cries for not liking the life given to him, like he couldn't find a more appropriate hour for that) and the plot about Skynet coming to life is totally unnecessary (feels a bit like a money grab). Though the movie has some cool action sequences.
On the other hand, Genisys is a mess of timelines, which has its moments. The upgrade of Arnold near the end was great and all these characters from T1 and T2 returning, even with different actors are some nice additions.

T4 was a disappointment for me. Why? No Arnold, I couldn't get the plot and characters didn't seem well explained (the whole time I was like: "Who is that???").

Anyways, I am not by any means a film critic, so take what I wrote with many spoons of salt.
Excited for 6 and I hope it will be good. I mean, if it has more of the original actors, then why not?

I am the point of His spear,
I am the mail about His fist,
I am the bane of His foes and the woes of the treacherous,

I'm still waiting for a film about the Future War against the Machines that we saw glimpses of in the first film. I'm sick of time travel shenanigans and 1980's/1990's/2000's settings. I just want to see human resistance soldiers fighting killer robots on a post apocalyptic landscape.

If a true Terminator movie is supposed to be a "story about being chased by ruthless, unstoppable killing machine" then what better setting could there be than seeing that play out on a post apocalyptic with an entire Resistance movement being hunted down by thousands of Machines?

Terminator Salvation is the closest we got to that, which is why its my 3rd favourite film after T1 and T2.
