I decided to run my Death Guard as a 'Clown' themed army. The Idea is that the leader of my Death Guard faction started creating a 'Joker Virus' a variant of the Pox Walker Virus (think back to Jack Nicolson's Joker). As it progresses it slowly turns it's victims into clowns. The Warband is still young, having only struck out recently. The various Death Guard units are going to be painted to look like carnival rides that got corrupted by Nurgle. I've got a Spawn painted up to look like a clown that got overly mutated. I'm even working on a large diorama of Pennywise that would 'count as' Mortarion (still in the early stages of planning).

The problem that I am having in how best to deal with the Plague Marines themselves. I've done one unit so far painted up as Clowns, but those with Helmets on just don't feel right to me. The unit Champion was helmetless, and I think his look came out a lot better. I've already tried a couple versions of paint themes, and don't want to go too much further in repainting them until I can find something that can reliably strip off primer without killing the mini.

My first attempt was to paint them up in multicolored armor like what a clown would wear. But it just came out wrong, no matter how hard I tried, it just looked like something a child would do. I've also tried their current version as already stated. I've also considered just painting them in black with green highlights, (the Death Guard codex has a couple of these painted up and I think they look really sweet). The idea would simply be that the Death Guard are the cause of but still separate from the whole 'Carnival of Death' theme going on. I've also considered keeping the same blue-ish paint theme that my Thousand Sons army has. After all, that was the original intent to begin with. I've been trying to build a single Chaos army that can be run as multiple cults but has a unifying paint theme (think Black Legion, only a Thousand Sons centered version)

This is what my Thousand Sons looks like

These are the Plague Marines I've already painted to match

This is the Death Guard Unit I've painted up to look like Clowns

Two of my Bloat Drones (trying to go for an evil rusted out bumper car vibe)

A Clown Spawn (with rusty spikes coming out of it)

1 Unit of Px walkers in the early stage of becoming clowns. (my plan here is to paint my poxwalkers in different stages of becoming a clown, then mix the models into various units. these are just starting to turn into clowns, some will just be regularly painted, while others will have a full body clown paint)

So my question is, what over all paint theme should I go with on the Power and Terminator armor units?

I must admit, not a huge fan of the idea, maybe because I just saw IT, but im sure if you pull it off correctly it will look awesome on the table

Facts are chains that bind perception and fetter truth. For a man can remake the world if he has a dream and no facts to cloud his mind.

Actually, I'm looking at mixing the colors of each squad using the same technique i used on my green and blue squad. So I'm looking at each member being washed in a different color. I'm also looking at command units being in black with green trim to represent the darkness that brings the nightmares,
