I figured because this was 40k specific, and more likely to get answers here than in Geek Media, I'd put ask here. If I'm wrong, my apologies.

I'm just getting around to listening to Podcasts, after ignoring them for so long. Do you guys have any good suggestions for 40k podcasts?

Forge the Narrative and the Independent Characters (although the later I think may be done now.)

The IC podcast is still going. It did take a break for a while but its back now. There is also "The Long War", the " Adeptus Terra" and "Masters of the Forge" podcasts.

The Battlehosts is one of my favourites.

Also listen to FTN and the Independent Characters.

Heroic Intervention is also great, although I suspect one of the hosts is a bit love/hate. I think he's mostly funny but he can get a bit salty.

TO of Death Before Dishonour - A Warhammer 40k Tournament with a focus on great battles between well painted, thematic armies on tables with full terrain.

Some good suggestions in this thread. I enjoy 'The Overlords' and 'Adeptus Terra' podcasts along with the miniatures monthly segment on the Crate and Crowbar (although that last one covers AoS the majority of the time and the Overlords seem to be on an extended hiatus!)

'Masters of the Forge' has really good content and even gets black library authors on sometimes. Sadly, I just find the mains guy's accent really hard to listen to.
However, since the OP is a yank himself, it might sound nicer to his ears!

It depends on what you are looking for from a podcast there are quite a few.

Independent Characters - Good For hobby and fluffier aspects of the game

Forge the Narative - decent hobby and somewhat competitive

Signals from the Frontline - Frontline Gamings podcast, covers a lot of news and new releases

Allies of convenience- much more competitive minded cast

My list also includes
The Battlehosts
Heroic intervention
TFG Radio
CanHammer
Masters of the Forge
Mob Rules
Exterminatus Podcast

I suggest trying a few different casts and seeing which ones click for you.

My favourites are The Triumvirate and Ashes of the Imperium. Both are made up of veteran UK AoS podcasters getting back into 40k. The Triumvirate has excellent banter and Ashes of the Imperium has a great variety of hosts to cover Open, Narrative and Matched play.

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Huh, not seen those before. Thanks!

A new day, a new time zone.

The Independent Characters is definitely my favorite podcast, along with The Long War and The Overlords.

"-Nonsense, the Inquisitor and his retinue are our hounoured guests, of course we should invite them to celebrate Four-armed Emperor-day with us..."

I can't believe no one mentioned Splintermind! They claim to be Dark Eldar specific, but in reality that extends to other eldar armies...or competitive events DE might be at...or armies DE might fight against...so, really, all of 40k in general.

Thor and Brian have good radio bearing, and do good work editing it; it's a treat to listen to.

Welcome to the Freakshow!

I listen to the weekly planet regularly. (For my red hot comic book movie news, shooting up your butthole).

They have set a pretty high (low?) Bar for me with podcasts.

Are there any 40k podcasts that are comparable?

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Low bar?
Life after the cover save maybe?

If you have never listened to weekly planet I highly recommend it. But while the humor is good and the quality is good they are self described a couple of idiots who often get things wrong haha. It's pretty entertaining. The bar is high. The low comment is in line with their self deprecating humor. I tried a couple 40k podcasts before but the personalities and humor didn't catch for me.

The 40K Badcast is my favorite at the moment. A lot of 40K podcasts can be a bit dry, and don't have enough terrible fanfic being read out, or musings on which primarch you should <make sweet love to>/marry/kill, or examinations of the odder parts of Ian Watson's very early Space Marine novels, or randomly-generated demon names, but you can't say that about the Badcast.

Probably don't listen to it in the car with your kids though.

I enjoy the Overlords above all - definitely the best banter, and the best off-the-cuff comedy. They're also more my style (less competitive, more about narrative/cool scenarios). Sadly they're closing up the podcast come November (as well as closing their local gaming club).

The Independent Characters is okay, but I find it was far better in the Carl and Geoff days --- Geoff added some needed counter-balance to the feel of the show. Geoff was the not-wealthy, more pragmatic part of the show and it lost a bunch when he left. I rarely listen to it anymore.

The Preferred Enemies is really pretty good. It's less comical, less narrative and more just discussing rules (most of the time). It does dabble quite a bit in the heavier competitive side (a lot of list reviews, and rules question debates etc.) but the hosts are generally likeable and it's an easy listen.

I've tried a handful of others and they're mostly awful (if you don't have the voice or charisma for a podcast...just don't!)

Where did you see that? I haven't seen any new podcasts from them since July!

Man, I'm like a year behind on the Overlords (I stopped listening regularly after Jason left) but that's a real bummer to hear!

*edit*
Yup, the announcement is right there on the facebook page.

Same. Overlords without Jason and Jon just wasn't quite the same. I listen to Sons of Heresy now. It really is a shame that the Overlords are closing up shop, I feel like they've really been around forever.
