Hey guys

My main army is orks, and I'm thinking of one of the two as a second. The wolves will be minus any Primaris. Guard would be a mix of everything. I prefer the space wolves lore. I just want to eliminate any doubt.

Cheers

I am not even a fan of the current wolves, but if you prefer their lore I think you already have an answer.
Also, what's that Dreadnought on the avatar?

Generic characters disappearing? Elite units of your army losing options and customizations? No longer finding that motivation to convert?
Your army could suffer Post-Chapterhouse Stress Disorder (PCSD)! If you think that your army is suffering one or more of the aforementioned symptoms, call us at 789-666-1982 for a quick diagnosis!

If you prefer the wolves, you should go with them. Oterwise you might get regrets later on.
Also, Orks and IG are both horde armies. For variety, I'd go with something more elite.

Join the rout lad, soon you'll be wolfing your opponents wolf, then he'll be truely wolfed!

More seriously wolves are in a great spot this edition melee actually works again it's great.

Guard win by spamming conscripts and it's doubtful they'll let that carry on which will make it hard to plan a decent army before the codex drops.

Guard because they're not Space Marines.

You don't need to go horde army to win with Guard. They have plenty of competitive option aside from conscripts. Don't let the naysayers trick you into thinking you need craptons of bodies on the board. Have you consider Space wolves with IG allies though? Or IG with space wolves allies? They don't synergize, but they can fill holes in each other's armies.

IG is especially helpful for getting command points. Seriously, 220 pts for 3 IG infantry squads, Creed, and a Company commander nets you 5 command points if you make Creed your warlord. That's a decent bit of cheap bodies to put on backfield objectives or help with deepstrike area denial. The combos are out there.

For Melee I'd go wolves. For shooting, go AM.

I faced a guard list 2k paired up with 2k cults against 2k sm and 2k of my wolves, they had 7 tanks 6 sentinels and tons of infantry it looked pretty intimidating compared to out force.

We won 6 to 13 it wasn't even close all those tanks did nothing.

Russes need a buff I can see why people are going the conscript path.

Definatly guard. Wolves have silly lore. All that “wolf“ stuff is just over the top. “Wolflord Wolfwolf, son of wolf, carrier of the mark of the wolf is riding his thunderwolf along his fellow wolf brethren from planet wolf...“ and so on...
Being obsessed that much with wolves and not the holy emperor is - *blam* - Heresy!

Also guard offers much more variety. Mass infantry, small elite force, tank company, mechanised infantry, jump troops with lots of fliers, superheavy company - anything is possible. A lot more room for creating your own army.
Edit: Guard also has heresyblamming Commissars. What's not to love?

Space Wolves, very nice kits and variety and comparatively with new kits and more importantly Imperial Guard they are in a very good spot into point-pound ratio, if thats something you care about.

Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

That's probably the main reason why SW are the only imperium faction that I like. I'd like to see even more furs and puppies, they're still not enough wolfy for me.

I voted wolves cuz you promised no primaries.
Plus works vs wolves is awesome and fewer models to paint for ... Plus maybe less expensive.

When it comes to it, you have to like everything about the army to play it. If you don't like the lore, you can't become invested in your force. If you don't like the models, you can't stay excited about building and painting them. If you don't like the playstyle, you won't be taking them out on the tabletop and it will be harder to win.

So, if you like Space Wolves, pick wolves.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades!

Wonderful thing about Space Wolves is the options.
You can dig the Wolfity Wolf like Blackie does.
Me I prefer to chase the Viking Marine theme -
https://www.games-workshop.com/en-FI/Chaos-Warriors-Regiment-2016
- Mine are basically kit-bashed AoS Chaos Warriors packing Bolters, Marine Helmets and Backpacks.

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.

Or you could play Imperial Guard, who not only are getting a codex sooner but also:

Can play viking themed.
Can play wolf themed.
Can play roman themed.
Can play byzantine themed.
Can play drug-addled-psychopath themed.
Can play feudal warriors in plate-armour themed.
Can play special-operations badasses themed.
Can play tank company themed.
Can play air defense company themed.
Can play a special operations air defense badasses theme.
and more besides...

Don't compare Guard to Wolves and then say "play wolves because of the options...."

And yet Guard fail miserably at the first three you listed.
They don't have the melee ability to make respectable Vikings.
They don't have the mobility to make a good wolf theme.
They don't have the survivability to carry a Roman theme.
In fact drug-addled, tank-themed and air defense are the only ones you listed that Guard can pull off well.

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.
