Excluding the shadow and the undying how are you supposed to keep 1 wound models with very little fate 1 to 2 alive.
At 120pts + mount I find it difficult to justify the points even with the D8 when they appear to be so easily picked off.

Am I missing something?

In general, avoid combat with anyone who isn't Transfixed, always keep at least a few Orcs between them and any archers (we've all had a Nazgul taken out by that 'impossible' S2 vs D8 shot), remember they have Terror to keep basic troops away and stay the hell away from any combat-based heroes.

Also remember that you can Cast at any point during your move (don't think that changed in the last set of rules), so you can always leave them out of sight, pop out round terrain/other models to loose off a spell then dart back in, especially if you're on horseback that still gives you respectable range. Alternatively, take a couple of barebones generic Nazgul; neither will get as much done as one of the named ones or one loaded up with extra M/W/F and a mount, but you've got built-in redundancy if you lose one to back luck and can cover twice the area.

But in general, meat shields, meat shields, meat shields. It's what Orcs are for!

I'm planning on running Khamul on horse alongside an easterling force which is why it is a toss up between him and the priest. But the ability to transfix larger will-less monsters just appears too important for if someone brings a troll or something.
I just don't know how to reliably keep him alive, I suppose, hiding. Theres going to be a mirkwood force and a las alliance elves force that I know of, im petrified he's going to get shot out and 100pts is going to go down the toilet to like a 85pt tariel in the first round or something lol.

Khamul with armoured horse
2 Easterling Kataphrakt
6 Black dragon Kataphrakt

Amdur with armoured horse
2 Easterling Kataphrakt
6 Black dragon Kataphrakt

----- 500pts
My biggest concern with the above list is Khamul, I feel the same with all named ringwraiths, more so those that seem fairly vulnerable. At only 1 wound and only 2 fate its a struggle to see that he's going to survive when compared to the shadow or the undying for example but its best that the rhun can have. Which is the theme of the list. I wanted to run as much cav as I could, defense 6 fight 4 to give it an edge over all non-elven infantry I come up against with the knockdown and etc that comes with cavalry I think It shouldn't have an issue so long as I maintain the charge, which I think that I can manage even if priority goes against me by cycling Kataphrakt.

They're not combat heroes. They have to stay the heck away from combat as that just saps their reserves. Keep stuff between them and archers, it is unlikely that a bow will take them out, but it is possible. Just have at least one dude between you so you cut the odds down even further.

The thing to be afraid of isn't single high power shots, it's massed fire from ~10 bows where you start looking at good odds for one of those arrows to get through. Don't let him have a lot of shots at you.

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.
