I understand there are sentient species that already existed before the Old Ones came to the Warhammer world. They include dragons and dragon ogres. The latter have turned to Chaos, but are not Chaos creations like beastmen, and neither have they been granted sentience by the Old Ones (as far as I know). This would make dragon ogres the oldest civilization on the planet, far older than even the Lizardmen and the Elves.

Are there other species that were around at the very beginning?

Maybe the spirits of Athel Loren.

Never heard of the Giant civilization. Interesting.

Are the Fimir still canon?

Could be mistaken, but I thought the spirits of Athel Loren (such as those inhabiting dryads) were implied to be daemons.

Before the Old Ones came, the world was ruled by the Dragons. Dragons were everywhere. Even the Oldest Dragons only have early memories of this age.

This time was also the time of the Dragon Ogres, Lustria was still full of Dinosaurs (Taurasaurs were around before Lizardmen). Possibly the Sky Titians (intelligent giants that lived isolated lives on the tops of mountains or on the clouds themselves. Mainly lived on top of the Mountains of Mourn and where cast down by the huge Ogre migration.

There are references to an under-sea race massively pre-dating the elves, talked about as parts of a civilisation found in the underground seas of the Mountains between Nagaroth and Lustria.

But the main rulers where Dragon

(EDIT) You're right, one way or the other Forest Spirits are implied to come around after the Old Ones. Either they where similar to Daemons, or given sentience directly by the Old Ones, but they definitely happened after they came.

Sky Titans, Dragon Ogres, Dragons, Fimir, and the Merfolk. Those are the only races that don't have specific references to being created by the Old Ones. It's possible that some of them still were, just no record of that was kept.

If you want to discuss actual Pre-Old One civilizations, that rules out a few of these races. Dragon Ogres, Fimir, and Dragons certainly can't really be said to have any civilizations. Dragon Ogres really just have primitive weapon smithing, they aren't said to build cities or towns. Dragons certainly don't do any of that stuff. Fimir at best make shabby fortifications in the swamps, in imitation of what humans build. It's rumored they were once far greater, but there is little evidence of them being anything beyond savages who worshiped the chaos gods.

Really the only true ancient civilization that is confirmed is the Sky Titans. They built massive fortresses and had the technology to make wondrous weapons like the cannons that are still used thousands of years later by the ogres. They herded the now wild creatures of the mountains as flocks.

Greenskins also infested the planet. Saurus were largely designed/adapted to suppress Orcs.
