On getting back into 40k after a long hiatus I decided to finally make my own space marine chapter. Scheme is right side black, left side yellow, Red eagles, eyes and equipment. Should trim is done of the opposite color. I'm also mostly trying to use beaky helmets across my marines.

I'm debating how best to indicate squad sergeants and how to indicate the various SM characters and leaders. I don't think the traditional red helmeted Sergeants would look good.

I'm also undecided on a name at present.

You could paint an additional stripe of white or red down the middle of the helmet for officers. Or maybe paint a gauntlet gun metal or something.

My thoughts:

You could do a white helmet, or gold, or silver, or really any color. I'd probably go white granted if you do that route.

The other option that comes to mind is shoulder pads.Swap the shoulder pads on the sarge, or pure black shoulder pad on the yellow half and pure yellow shoulder pad on the black half. I might instead choose a different color entirely though for the shoulder pads if I went that route just to ensure the sarge actually stands out instead of just blending in.
