I need to break my 2k list down just in case i have to play at smaller points but im not sure how to go about it effectively without neutering myself.

Depends on the units you're actually using. If you're using a gunline, not only is the list viable, it'll probably cost you a few friends.

2750 Unliving Legion of the Zarith Dynasty
1750 Blood Ravens 5th Company
840 Imperial Knights of House Janis
2000 Khorne Bloodbound of the Legion of Rusted Chains
3000 Slaves to Darkness of the Legion of Rusted Chains
2500 Sylvaneth of the Seelie Court

I was thinking something like
Freeguild General on horse(100) Command Trait : Inspiring Stately War Banner Artefact : Flag of the Conqueror.

20 x Freeguild Handgunners (200) banner,pipers,Long Rifle
20 x Freeguild Guard (160) Sword and shield,banner,drummer
20 x Freeguild Guard (160) Sword and shield,banner,drummer
10 x Freeguild Greatswords (150) banner,hornblower.
3 x Demigryph Knights (160)

It would put me at 930

you will have a hard time holding yourself with that list

I would take more shooty stuff if I were you.
1 large unit of 30 handgunners, 1 large unit of 30 crossbows
30 because then you have a buffer of 10 guys before they start to loose buffs and your command abilities go on more models.
I would always play units like that in 10's or 30
and 1 unit of guardsmen for a company

support with a general on foot.
A gryphon might also be handy for duality of Death.

If you have the points left, ally in some gryph hounds, it helps against deepstrikers amd are cheap objective grabbers.

The demigryph knights function better in bigger groups or several small. three will do you no good as the rest of your army is not able to support there speed. I think they will just be butchered or be an expensive objective grabber

Yes The great swords at 1000 pts will be the hammer of your guardsmen anvil, but 1x 10 might be screaming target for enemy shooting as they are quite squishy and 2 shooty units will with there stand and shoot and support rules be much more devastating.

The only point where free people gets hairy at 1000 pts is if your opponent can outrange you, and do some heavy damage before you (a tzeentch list heavy on flamers could do that ex.) or is ultra fast and hard hitting (like dedicated cavalry)

Our local free people player always complains that his army is not on par with the other newer armies, and I agree with him that in most situation it is an uphill battle. They are great if you can stay in formation and hold the line. But as soon as you are forced to break up, most of the time it will be game over.

Well for my 2k list im running a lot more
Freeguild General on horse
Freeguild Guard 40
Freeguild Handgunner 30
Freeguild Handgunner 30
Freeguild Crossbows 30
Freeguild Greatswords 30
Freeguild General On Griffon
And at that im at like 1960, im just not sure what my sizes should be at 1k.

Freeguild General on horse
Freeguild Handgunner 30
Freeguild Crossbows 30
Freeguild Guard 40
would put me at 980

I would consider dropping to 20 guard (that is the minimum for the allegiance ability not? )

then you have room for a second general with the banner. and a gryph hound. 2xtra units will be welcome to hold stuff and to negate deep strike.
But your list is certainly worth play testing.
Something like this:
Allegiance: Free Peoples
Leaders
Freeguild General (100)
- Stately War Banner
Freeguild General (100)
- Shield & Lance
Units
30 x Freeguild Crossbowmen (300)
30 x Freeguild Handgunners (300)
20 x Freeguild Guard (160)
1 x Gryph-Hound (40)

This list could surprise some people as they probably don't see it coming from free peoples(This works at 1000 pts for a lot of armies, dedicated fast attack with a big scary hard hitting monster in the middle at the same speed).
Allegiance: Free Peoples
Leaders
Freeguild General On Griffon (260)
- Lance
Freeguild General (100)
- Shield & Lance
Units
3 x Demigryph Knights (160)
-Lance and Sword
6 x Demigryph Knights (320)
-Lance and Sword
3 x Demigryph Knights (160)
-Lance and Sword

Esh yeah that's peicy.

I know this is not gonna be helpfully but there is like 1 storm cast guy that gives a bonus to hit on your weapons, and with the 30 hand gunners they end up hitting on like 2 or 3 and it's just freaking hilarious to watch them delete units off the table.

low point game with only infantry is easy but lacks bonuses, still It's Empire, so it synergised well with each other

One general with Banner
20 Guards with Swords
10 with handgunners
10 archers
10 Greatswords
5 pistoliers
a Wizard
State troop detatchment (120 pts)
got 20 pts left

Massive unit discount is what makes Freeguild OP. And with 240 for 40-man blobs of guard you can exploit that at any point level.

Looking for a balanced Age of Sigmar? Tired of your favorite unit gathering dust because it's bad in Matched Play? Want a discount for not bringing the best possible weapon option? Try Project Points Cost!

PPC points are easily swapped out with those of Matched Play and include all models, unit upgrades, battalions, and terrain warscrolls!
